Side play in gear pedal 03 Foxeye - Dave48 - 26-04-13

There is considerable side play between the pedal & footpeg shaft. Havent yet removed footpeg from alloy holding plate as bolt is corroded in. Does anyone know if  the pedal hole is fitted with a bush or just steel drilling operating on steel shaft? Have looked at my thou and there is hardly any lateral movement of the pedal resulting in nice slick changes.
Guess I will be trawling ebay for a replacement as I cant stand a sloppy gearchange!

Assuming it's the same as the earlier version, it is just a plain steel hole.
I added a steel washer to the shaft to cut down on the free play where the lever (and wafer thin spring washer) wears against the alloy hanger and also a rubber 'O' ring to try to keep rain/grit out and grease in. It's helped, but has now done about 80k so the lever and pivot could do with being replaced again.

Update-managed to disassemble footpeg to discover the remains of a very thin wave washer that alledgedly takes up end float. have cleaned regeased and fitted thin washers either side of pedal shaft. Not perfect but more like a bike gearchange than a car now! Will replace worn parts in due course. :lol

I had the gear lever hole enlarged and a steel sleeve made to suit, fitted a new wavy washer and all was fine again  Smile
