Fazer not running properly - Fazer Jake - 24-04-13

After winter storage my fazer doesnt seem to be running properly.

at low range going up hills etc when i lay the power on it coughs and splutters with a backfire.

i'm hoping a carb balance and clean will resolve the issue but i'm thinking it may be an electrical fault as my shed had a leak in it.

the bike idle fine and doesnt appear to jump too much.
i dont believe its had its carbs balanced in a few years and since then i've had new downpipes, new moto gp zorst and a k&n.

I didnt start the bike for a few weeks and when i did fire it i heard the fuel pump pumping for what seemed like an age would this knock the carbs out?

I think you're definitely on the right track by doing a balance and clean, i'd get that out the way first as i reckon it could well be your answer.

How long did you store it, and have you put fresh fuel in since storing?

been stored from December - Feb i have had it out a few times and and around 3 £15 fill ups since then.

I would suggest a draining of the float bowls and then a synchronization - this can all be done with the carbs still in place. If that doesn't solve it, then remove them and give them and the jets a good cleaning then re-sync Smile

Tried clipping the ht leads and it still does it Sad

For the cost is it worth putting a new set of spark plugs in it?

Bike will need carb balance after fitting new downpipes so would get that checked out first. Smile

Had something similar today.

After about 15 mins without issue, pulled round a roundabout and opened the gas in 3rd, bike coughs and stutters but clears, about 2 mins later running up the road at 70 (ish) and the power starts dropping off, have to keep opening the gas to keep speed.  Up to the next roundabout a min later and the bike cuts out on me.  Pull into the side, lift the tank and check the fuel tank tap which is on, flick it off and on again.  Been sat now for about 5 mins, try to start her again and all is good.  Ride off and around for another 20 mins without issue, just on the way home and yet another roundabout and I notice the idle at 750/800 rpm instead of the 1200/1300 I know she was idling at when I left.

I'm going to blame old (2 months) dirty fuel until I find something else but yea, starting with draining the carbs / check the fuel filter and empting / slosh out the tank.

Never happened before, carbs balanced last month and plugs have only done 2000 miles.
