Tyre Pressures - Bigfellabuck - 19-04-13
Hi Guys n Dolls, bit lazy of me but what are the best pressures to run a 600 on either solo or pillion??

I ride on 36f/42r, but have a large top box that's generally always half loaded, and i'm a svelt 16 stone

It all depends on weight and type of tyre make but as a rule:
1998 to 2001 models rider only; front 32 spi(2.2 Bar) rear 36 spi (2.5 Bar)
2002 to 2003 models rider only; front 33 spi (2.25 Bar) rear 36spi (2.5 Bar)
1998 to 2001 models rider & pasanger; front 32 spi (2.2 Bar) rear 40 psi (2.8 Bar)
2002 to 2003 models rider & passenger; front 33 psi (2.25 Bar) rear 42 psi (2.9 Bar)

Best place to start is with the recommended manufacturer values. From there, adjust to suit yourself
FYI, I'm actually running the same as darrsi - 36F / 42R - but I'm a heavy lad as well (though I'm slowly shrinking!)

The 600's have a 187kg total weight load limit on them, which is fine for one person, but i'm about 100kg for instance, then add the always half full large top box and metalwork, possibly 20-25kg, and it leaves me quite limited as to the size of my passengers i can take, about 9 stone max in my case (which is handy
).I bet a lot of people don't take these weight limits into consideration!

Well last year I was knocking on nearly 20st so probably weighed more than you and all your equipment haha
Thankfully that's not the case anymore as I am down to 14.5st
I played around with lowering the pressures when I got my new tyres on, but I feel more comfortable on the 36/42 so that's what I'm sticking with

Yeah, i agree, over winter the tyres generally lose a bit of air so i would experiment and see how far i could let it go before getting the wobbles, and it didn't take much to notice a difference in handling after a few pounds of lost pressure.
But once topped up back to 36/42 then all was sweet again

, 18 months ago I was 21st 7lbs now down to 10st 4lbs, and still use 36-42 psi in the bike tyresMark

Holy crap, that's one hell of a loss! I'm happy enough to be in the 14-15st area as it's the lightest I've been for years - aiming for 11-12st though as that's my "ideal" weight according to BMI - its rough but a target
