Knee protection under jeans. - FuZzBoM - 04-04-13 With the summer fast approaching.... :rollin it got me thinking about kit. If I am going out for a quick blast I cant normally be bothered to get fully kitted up. also when out in the sun walking about in full kit is not enjoyable when your destination has been reached. so.. Knee protection under jeans I thought could be a good idea. there are plenty of off-road and motocross style pads but not really suitable for road use. Does anyone else use these at all? I have had my eye on these KNOX ones and wondered if anyone else has them or something similar and can offer any advice. http://www.knox-armour.co.uk/product_lower.html?product=crossliteknee thanks, Re: Knee protection under jeans. - ghostbiker - 04-04-13 I had a mate that sewed pockets on the inside to take armour on his normal jeans. but the problem is not the armour its the fact normal jeans will last about half a second when in contact with the road surface at 40mph and the armour will just fall out or move etc. Much better off with some kevlar jeans, i have 2 pairs and they are as comfy as normal jeans although a little heavyer and hotter but not unbearably so. have also seen kevlar hoodies that a few stunters and streetfighter types like to wear. think it was made by grinfactor if memorie servs. daughter likes her kevlar jeans because off the bike most ppl think they are just jeans but those that ride spot the extra stiching and tags so she still gets the biker factor and nod ![]() Re: Knee protection under jeans. - FuZzBoM - 04-04-13 I agree with most of your points but Kevlar jeans are expensive for a good pair and those knee pads strap directly to your leg/knee so there is less chance of it moving from the desired location. On top of this for as little as £30 you get some extra protection on any trousers/jeans you wear http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KNOX-Cross-Lite-Short-Knee-Pads-MTB-Enduro-MOTO-X-Brand-New-/200877317555?pt=UK_Cycling_Clothing&var=&hash=item2ec5389db3 Looks like I may have talked myself into it already lol. Re: Knee protection under jeans. - ghostbiker - 04-04-13 Paid £45 for my last set of grinfactor kevlar jeans from BSB paddock stall. last years design at clearance price. but i agree your looking at around £60-140 depending on brand/size and iff you can find a good deal at the time. Shows and big meets often get good results. daughter got a pairof JTS ones from the BMF tailend show 2 years ago for £20 JTS are doing old stock at £59.99 right now in blue or distressed black normal price £89.99 was also a guy on here a while back had a good offer going, might be worth a search for the old thread as he was giving a discount to foc-u members. Re: Knee protection under jeans. - Dead Eye - 04-04-13 +1 for Kevlar jeans - I wear these for the comfort and ease of walking around when not on the bike ![]() Pretty sure mine only cost me £50-£60 from eBay. They have worn a bit around the crotch area, but I seem to do that to all trousers I wear... thankfully, my mother is a sewing machinist so its damn easy to get them repaired and have additional material added to extend their life. Re: Knee protection under jeans. - eddie - 04-04-13 Have look for Australian bikers. Jeans on amazon Re: Knee protection under jeans. - Dead Eye - 04-04-13 (04-04-13, 05:28 PM)eddie link Wrote: Have look for Australian bikers. Jeans on amazon This is the make that I have ![]() Re: Knee protection under jeans. - demic77 - 04-04-13 Aldi had some in a couple of weeks ago for £30, not sure how good they'd be but armour was all CE approved. Be worth a go for that money, if they're shit wear 'em for workin' on t'bike or jobs where you're kneeling down. I've found most other aldi kit ace for the money. Re: Knee protection under jeans. - FuZzBoM - 04-04-13 ok.. I gave in and ordered a pair of these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111008847861?var=410164404749&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 My thinking was its the same price as the pads I was going to order. I also noticed they do a cargo style trousers. if the jeans are any good I may get me some of them as well. ![]() Cheers gents. Re: Knee protection under jeans. - Dead Eye - 04-04-13 Let me know how you get on with them and if they are any good as I may buy a new pair as well - current ones are rather loose after all my weight loss ![]() Re: Knee protection under jeans. - FuZzBoM - 04-04-13 yeah will do. I went for them because of the price obviously and because they were the only ones that listed they come with CE armour. I have spent more than £30 on normal jeans lol so if they are crap I will use them when working on bike/cars etc. as suggested. Re: Knee protection under jeans. - sure2ride - 05-04-13 FuZzBoM I'd be interested in what you think of them as well. The Ebay listing looks good so thay may well be worth a punt. Cheers. ![]() Re: Knee protection under jeans. - ponkster - 05-04-13 I have got a pair of the kevlar jeans in the ebay link - I'm happy with them and think the knee protection is good quality stuff , there seems quite a bit of kevlar in them and think they will be great for the summer. Re: Knee protection under jeans. - sure2ride - 05-04-13 What's the fit like? would you say their sizes are on the tight side or larger size. Only asking cos I was a 38" waist but reckon I am a little over that now (can't understand it must be all them pies). Anyway, if they are a tight fit I'd go for a 40 but if a loose fit I'd go for a 38. Just askin in case you have a view, hope you don't mind. Ta Clive Re: Knee protection under jeans. - ponkster - 05-04-13 I think they are quite roomy but you do need them baggy for the pads Re: Knee protection under jeans. - sure2ride - 05-04-13 Cheers ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Knee protection under jeans. - locksmith - 05-04-13 Whats wrong with shorts and flip flops if only a short blast? Re: Knee protection under jeans. - sure2ride - 05-04-13 Sunburn.....but I'll keep the flip-flops. :lol Re: Knee protection under jeans. - FuZzBoM - 05-04-13 I know you are only joking but I did cringe a little. Visions of shredded feet and missing toes lol Re: Knee protection under jeans. - locksmith - 05-04-13 Wouldn't imagine changing gear is much fun in flipflops :lol |
