Restricted track days? - ChristoT - 02-04-13

I'd love to do a track day (as nailing my bike down round French roads is fun, but frowned upon by Monsieur Plod  Wink ), and was thinking about doing one when I come back to England to return to my studies.

I've heard a lot of conflicting info on this, so here's how I stand:

I have a Fazer 600, with a 33hp restrictor, & I have Richa leather trousers with sliders, and a Richa jacket - they zip together over 3/4s of the way.

Question is: CAN I DO TRACK? I found a link after googling that shows that there's (at least) one company that allows 33hps on, but they charge an absolute fortune for it. Anyone able to shed some light on this? Do all firms allow 33hp bikes on with adequate insurance + gear, or is it full power only for most of them?

Many thanks in advance!  Smile

Save the money mate. If yer back in blighty then just hit the roads. If you have a line of cars in front then be patient and pick em off one at a time with plenty of space in front. The rectriction won't allow passing of multiples without some harem scarem. Plod dont like that no matter what offshoot of latin they speak.

Plenty of fun to be had without track stuff. Mind its still the beginner stage. Save the fortune for full power and learn the road before the sped because it will be within 2 years and thats plenty of time to learn how a fazer handles day to day. Put aside some cashand wait for derestriction and by that time you will have much better understanding of the weight and balance before going all out. You might even have enough put aside for onesies that won't allow any room for doubt as the gear required for track stuff.

Plenty of good roads about that will be fine for 33 brake.

I gather it would be similar I  france or elsewhere.  The restrictor will only be more disappointing on a track cos you want better. It aint gonna happen any more than it would on motorway or decent b road.

It's BECAUSE I'm on English plates that I'm cheeky when in France - less likely for anything to end up on my permanent record.

As for the riding, the top speed is fine (let's just say I've done the ton +), butI'd like to push the handling a bit. I'm at Uni in Hertfordshire, and the roads aren't all that good there. Here in France, during the holidays, there are some nice twisties, but the best are covered in grit and crap. Which is why I'm thinking track, conditions are likely to be better.

As for my restrictor, it comes out in 1 year and 4 months, which is always good. As I spend most of the year in the UK at Uni, I was thinking of Brands' Hatch or something similar. To be honest, it's mainly the logistics of sorting the damn thing out!

Thanks for the input though, duly noted!  Smile

contact some of the trackday organisers for advice. You could do the novice group at some of the twistier tracks perhaps. But do bear in mind its likely you would be a mobile chicane, so its inherantly risky.Full leathers which zip together is a must.

Mallory would be best bet, no long straights to speak off, I have been their with lads on supermoto's who smoked most peeps round the place

I think the problem is not the 33 bhp bike, as I have seen 125's and 350 trials on track days before. Its that most tracks require a unrestricted license or a race license to ride on them.
Just call around you will find places I'm sure if you look hard enough.
