given the fuel cost of touring , why go if the weather isnt  good ??

Re: A bit cold in the UK? - RedRag - 02-04-13

Had  3 days of mixed traveling weather from London to  to la roque alrIc, near Avignon. Had 3 days once arrived of really great rides around the region with today proving 140 Km of great adventure. Fast twisties, coffee in a mountain village, and an old ruin - just like the north circular but without the cold, tailgaters, police McDonald's and don't mess with me attitude. Sometimes you need to go on tour to realise why you love your bike so much and the freedom it gives. 15 degrees this afternoon. The sat nav said 23 miles home across country - 1 hr 15 mins to destination. Got back in 40 mins, oh joy, deep joy. Pitternator, Take a chance, live the dream.

Re: A bit cold in the UK? - AyJay - 02-04-13

I'm jealous! I love that part of the world. Ah, the Alpes Maritimes. Long wistful sigh.

Just shows how crap the weather is at the moment that we're asking 'why go'. A few years ago I slipped away for an Easter break in France and it was fine. Lovely weather.

Tell you what, you really know the meaning of 'shut' when you've been to a Catholic country at Easter. At my hotel that year, even the restaurant and bar were closed and I had no meal that night other than a cup of tea and a little selophane wrapped stack of digestives.

I think your handle 'RedRag' is very apt! Can't think of a better name to post holiday pics back to us wage slaves in the UK! Now get back on the road and get another 3mm of wear off those tyres for me will ya?

Re: A bit cold in the UK? - RedRag - 02-04-13

AyJay,

Sorry to rub it in, been a long time in the planning this "outing" and was mightily concerned back in Nurf London amidst the snow and zero degrees 2 weeks a go. Got tot say that Easter bank hols ment much was closed and we were saved by a blokes supermarche shop in Avignon ( think beer, cakes, funny bacon, smelly sausages, cakes and more beer).  Even found some chain lube - eat your heart out  morrisons./tesco,s

Here's a RedRag photo from this afternoon

live the dream ??

cheeky foccer. I tour every year ! Be nice to be able to just go  when and where u want, some of us have jobs and families to consider for a start

...you dont rack up my sort of bike mileage by not " taking a chance"...or not " living the dream".

Lordy .

Re: A bit cold in the UK? - fireblake - 03-04-13

I partly agree with Pitternators  earlier post about the cost of fuel and the weather. I know it's good to be out there but if you only have so much money then I'd rather go on my tour when it's way warmer and less chance of rain? The picture shown would be perfect with the sun shining?

I agree Mickey, only time slot we could do, took a chance on weather and it worked out. Family and work commitments mean summer options limited.  Just happy to be away from zero degrees for a week on our bikes that's all  Smile

Re: A bit cold in the UK? - AyJay - 03-04-13

Yes, Fireblake, that was my point about Easter usually being a good time to get away. It's usually not this cold at Easter although there was that year when it snowed at the first BSB races at Brands Hatch.

RedRag, yer living my dream right now. (sorry pitty!)
