R1/R6 Front brake master cylinder on a FZS 600? - CharlieDee - 29-03-13

Just day dreaming of my next interchangeable Yamaha upgrade... has anyone changed their front brake master cylinder for an R1/R6 version?  Confusedmokin

For what reason?

I wondered the same thing.

Greater choice of levers, slightly larger MC so increasing feedback in braking and it looks cool.  Confusedmokin

Yeah, (possibly) larger swept volume of the R1 piston will give you slightly sharper brakes in theory (unless someone could prove me wrong).

After running a '98 R1 for nearly 7 years, I wouldn't bother upgrading, the Ikkle Fazers brakes are fine as they are! Big Grin

Wrong way around mate. If you get a bigger m/c piston then you'll have less travel on the lever, and a more wooden feel to it. It's the smaller pistons that give more travel and more feel. With a smaller piston you also don't have to squeeze the brake as hard for a given level of braking.

I find it hard to understand why you'd want better brakes than the Fazer already has. They're pretty damn good imo.

Wooden = sharper? As 98 onwards R1 uses the same caliper I think the R1 reservoir & MC may have a positive effect on brake response...

its more an asthetic thing... there is a greater choice of levers... but to be honest I think the Foccer boys may have solved that issue yesterday as there is some nice levers in China ob eBay that look the business  :lol

The Chinese levers are pretty good quality. I've used them for a while now and they're ace!
Good luck with your choice, and get some pics up here when you get them. Big Grin

Please can you post a few links of different versions and the effect you'd expect them to have?

I'm curious now...
