Look at what I've got in store for next week :) - Fuzzy - 28-03-13

If all goes well I'll have the following fitted by the end of next week! Getting a garage to fit it all for me.
  • Pair of wheels (look brand new & in their Yamaha boxes - less than 1000 miles on them apparently)
  • Pair of ABE (All Bike Engineering) front brake discs
  • Rear EBC brake disc
  • SBS sintered pads up front
  • SBS ceramic pads on the bum end
  • Rear shock refurbished by ABE
  • New disc bolts all round (in case you wondered what's in the little purple bag)
Will report back with first impressions of each item. By the way, anybody got any special tips in regards to bedding in new discs and pads? Only downside is it looks like I might have to take it a little easier than usual on the April London foccer's ride  :\

A bit of a plug here but I will probably have my old rims with polished lips for sale afterwards and possibly my Wilbers shock too depending on whether I get on with the refurbed one so pm me if you're interested.

All the juicy parts below

What magazine are you buying that kit bike from?
"Only 780 parts to collect, totalling £120,000"  :lol

Ha, the bloody huge one at the back of the shop!

Nice box'o stuff there man!

Be like christmas! haha!

I would suggest getting a good wheel sealant on those wheels before they are fitted, will make them much easier to keep clean  Wink

Re: Look at what I've got in store for next week :) - Fuzzy - 28-03-13

Didn't think of that Chris, probably a bit late now but I did wax them all over & treat them with acf50 in places (inside the hub etc) so hopefully that'll do the trick.

Re: Look at what I've got in store for next week :) - Chris - 28-03-13

A good wax should last a while but there are some dedicated wheel sealants out there these days which stop the brake dust etc sticking to the wheels. I've just had my wheels powder coated gloss black and got some sealant on them so hopefully they'll be easier to keep clean and keep them glossy. Especially the front as it can be a right pain to get at with the big front discs etc.

Something to think about if you have them off again anytime  8)

Yeah, I know what you mean, they can be a pain. I shall keep an eye out over the weekend for some sealant then as I do not plan to have them off again anytime soon! If all else fails, the autoglym wax is pretty good on bodywork so hopefully it won't be too bad.

I get a lot of detailing products from here. http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wheels-and-tyres/cat_7.html

On the page I've linked to it has pretty much everything you could need for your weels. I personally use Gtechniq C5 on my wheels but it is pretty expensive, having said that one application will last for up to 2 years whereas a general wax like you've used will last 6 to 8 months and still get penetrated by brake dust, and most wheel specific waxs will last 8 months to a year. Autofinesse Mint Rims is supposed to be really good and long lasting though. They are both on the page I linked to.

The higher temperatures and the extra amount of brake dust fallout means the wheels live in a very harsh atmosphere and therefore need extra tough protection... If you are a total perfectionist like me... haha

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks for the link - yes £20+ is a lot but it lasts for up to 2 years!? Crumbs, that is good, I will have a browse of that page Smile

Re: Look at what I've got in store for next week :) - Chris - 28-03-13

No problem,

Ye, the Gtechniq range is increidible stuff. but the price will put a lot of people off plus it can be a bit of a faff to apply, prep is everything. Something like mint rims will do you proud though, much easier to apply as it is just a wax. I used to use poorboys wheel sealant, also listed on that page but it didn't last as long as I wanted. Having said that it's a big tub and it isn't that expensive so will last a long time, it would be fine on car wheels which are easy to get to but on the bike you want something that'll hold up a bit longer. It smells so good you have to try really hard not to eat it though... haha!  :eek  :lol

I won't be missing this one! Just means I probably won't be braking into turns like Rossi....  Wink To tell you the truth it'll probably make no difference as I'm not heavy on the brakes anyway. Just don't want to warp the discs or something thats all, plus with all the parts about, my flat is begining to resemble a garage more than a home so it needs to be done!
