Re: MALLORY CLOSING? - simonm - 26-03-13

Signed it a month or so ago. Thanks for drawing attention to the plight tho :-)

What kinda ass buys a house near a race track and then complains about occasional noise and/or traffic? Stupidity.

Re: MALLORY CLOSING? - Skippernick - 26-03-13

I believe there is more to this than just that. Mallory made promises which they then broke not sure about the full story and so are getting a kick for it, thats life.
I agree it shouldn't be closed and have signed, but we all live on this earth together.

Re: MALLORY CLOSING? - simonm - 26-03-13

As far as I am aware the two points are:

1.) noise levels. It seems silly to have motor racing and then for the council to slowly throttle the circuits money supply by restricting noise levels unless it is something that is in line with major circuits or motor sport guidelines

2.)mallory park saying 92 days racing a year us not enough to make it economical to run. This seems like the race circuit trying to make a cash cow out of the circuit. They've run happily for 92 days for years, they have no entitlement to change it without the residents permission

Definitely a twin issue but easily resolved if people don't be greedy. Running a small track shouldn't be about making a profit but should be a hobby for posterity.

Re: MALLORY CLOSING? - mr self destruct - 11-07-13

I signed the petition a while back, and it looks like the saga might go on for a while yet.

It's a business!

As for the complaints it's fuckin ridiculous, the track was there before you moved in, do your research.

I used to be a pub manager (living above the pub) and couldn't believe how dumb people could be, they'd move in on the high street then complain about the noise (not music or anything, just the people) seriously now, what the fuck did you expect, it's a public house, and strangely enough not only was it there before you moved in- the whole building was there purpose built as a public house 100 years before the architect of your house was even fuckin born, dumbfucks!

Re: MALLORY CLOSING? - nick crisp - 11-07-13

Very similar to what goes on here next door to RAF Brize Norton. People move here then complain about noisy aircraft. Not much chance they'll get this place closed down tho'!

Re: MALLORY CLOSING? - simonm - 11-07-13

I've been to Mallory and I had a great day.  I'm sure there is plenty of money coming out of the track so I don't agree that reducing the number of days to 92 would be "forcing the circuit operators BARC to shut the facility as it will not be financially viable".  All that would happen is that prices would go up.  Whilst I agree the track has been there since 1955 that doesn't mean that the locals shouldn't be appeased.  A village should not be bullied by a load of petrol heads who don't even live there, but turn up for the track then scram.

The village and the track should run together in harmony.  92 days racing is 25% of the year (if my maths holds up), that means that 1/4 of the year you'd be hearing motorsports.  No BBQ's on a Saturday afternoon, and quite possibly hearing motorsports during lunch, Wimbledon or whatever.

Mallory say they want events on 160 days (43% of the year).

In essence we're saying that if Heathrow said it was unviable to run the airport unless it was 24 hours a day that the residents should just shut up and take aeroplanes over their head all day every day ?

Show some perspective, we're all petrol heads and love motor sports but compromise is the name of the game.  I don't agree with either of them but this shouldn't be a one sided character assassination.

ps.  Flame on.

Re: MALLORY CLOSING? - mr self destruct - 12-07-13

I read the council's report and it looks like the trouble stems from them building an earth bank that's reflected the noise towards the houses by the hairpin. Apparently in 2012 there were 152 complaints, 72 from one household alone, and 35 from another. So over 66% were from just two houses.

Re: MALLORY CLOSING? - simonm - 12-07-13

That's a good doc, thanks for posting it.
I'm sure there is some middle ground that could be found, maybe some redevelopment/landscaping to reduce noise pollution (around the hair pin specifically by the sounds of it).

I think my specific grudge is that Mallory can fix this themselves without resorting to massive petitions, threats of closure and making the village/council look like the bad guys.

On days when there is no racing, people should ride past these houses with loud cans and get the local flying clubs to use it as a way point too!
