Honda VFR750FV 1997 6,500 genuine miles only - richiomtt - 17-03-13

The best VFR in the best colour (in my opinion) and the last carb model before it went jerky fuel injection. 6,500 genuine miles with all old MOTs to prove mileage. Only 1 previous owner, an ex-work colleague who bought brand new in 1997 and only put 3,800 miles on it. Since owning I have chained all the brake fluid with new putoline DOT 4.0, changed the coolant and flushed out and replaced with putoline’s finest pre-mixed coolant. The bike has a recent oil change 700 miles ago (Motorex semi-synth) and genuine Honda oil filter. The previous oil and filter change by me was only 1,500 miles previous at 4,300 miles.  I installed a brand new scorpion high level stainless pipe with removable baffle, although I’ve never had the baffle in as it sounds so gorgeous.
The bike also benefits from an upgraded rectifier with heat-sink (very common problem) and recent quality gel battery.
I’m meticulous about my bikes and I’ve looked after it very well. It is in overall fantastic condition as you would expect from a 6,500 mileage bike. It has a few scratches here and there, but as to be expected from a 15 year old bike, so please don’t expect a new bike. But generally it’s in fantastic condition with that gorgeous deeply coated Honda red paint. The exhaust down-pipes/collectors are absolutely solid.
The VFR comes with the original toolkit, passenger grab rails, original exhaust and two keys in total, plus the owners manual and service history/warranty manual (8 Honda main dealer stamps in  4,000 miles!). Also datatagged with all the paperwork.
The bike handles superbly courtesy of the legendary VFR stability and a rear jack-up kit. This has sharpened the steering up nicely, but the bike is still just as stable. The original linkage plates are included and can be converted back to standard in 15mins. When I added the kit, I cleaned up the linkage bearings and re-greased, although to be honest, they were as good as new. The brakes are great and as good as new and all pistons freely move. The bike rides brilliantly and everything feels crisp.
The bike has always been stored cleaned, under a breathable cover in a garage and on an optimate for the last 5 years.
Although the bike has low mileage, it is regularly run so no gummed up carbs or other gremlins. It is even stored with fuel stabiliser over the winter months and run for a while prior to this so the carbs are filled. It flew through the MOT in June, so has nearly a years MOT. Currently SORNed. Was taxed until Sept 2012.

£2600.

I'm genuinely never disappointed after I get on this after the Fazer thou.

That is one very nice bike indeed, its good to know that guys like you exist for when i eventually upgrade.

I reckon in a couple of years i'll get a bigger bike but ill still keep my 600,the natural progression would be to get a gen 1 fazer thou but im a bit of a sucker for a bit o plastic bodywork such as on the vfr.

Out of interest, due to the fact you're keeping the fazer and selling the vfr, obviously you think the fazers the better bike, but the vfr looks sportier, how do they compare???

I do like the sounds of honda build quality but then again the gen 1 seems to be a reliable bike also apart from the exup valves.

Thanks for that and it is a nice bike. The truth is that I decided to ride my bike to work as the traffic was so bad and the VFR was so mint, I couldn't bring myself to get it all salty Sad

So, I bought a Fazer that I decided I wouldn't mind if it got filthy and went from there. The reason I'm selling is I have set up my own company and working all hours, so just don't need two bikes as I haven't got the time. I'm tall at 6Ft 3 and find the Fazer more comfy on long hauls. I don't really want to sell the VFR but no point in it just sitting there.

Well good luck wi the sale, annoys me that i dont have the money, hope it goes to a good home & is kept to the same standard,i was reading an article on blades and most of the owners were saying they've never had a single thing gone wrong with them & id assume the vfr is the same, really appeals to me as im not the most interested in tearing  bikes apart in my shed, service, fuel up & ride.

Note to self...stop looking at bikes you cant buy :'(

I've had 2 VFR 750's and 2 Fazer 1000's, sold/swapped my last VFR Christmas eve just so I could get back on a Fazer.
For me it's a much better bike, better riding posistion (i'm getting old) more grunt, finish on the Fazer is good so long as you keep on top of it, same as most bikes.
VFR750 is the best looking of the VFR's IMHO but I like seeing an engine, VFR can look spotless but a fairing can hide all sorts.
All in all both are very good bikes, both will or should be reliable, both tour both commute both scratch, VFR gets better MPG but and this is another thing that leans my to the Fazer, you can't bling a VFR.

I'm obviously selling to the wrong crowd, the Fazer lovers - ha ha (and I'm on of 'em).

Nice VFR by the way..
