ALDI WOES.................advice needed - DILLIGAFF - 07-03-13 Went to my local Aldi yesterday and as per usual mooched around putting a few bits and bobs in my shopping bag. You mat recall that Aldi actively encouraged customers to bring their own bags and for many years did not provide baskets. Anyhoo, as my bag got heavier I parked it on an empty shelf while I went off to get some milk. Imagine my amusement to return and find the store security guard and one of the floor managers pulling items out of my bag? I told them it was mine and they just emptied everything out and gave me my bag back saying I was no longer allowed to use my own shopping bags as they now provide baskets. My protestations that I had ALWAYS shopped this way at Aldi and had seen no notices informing me of change in policy were completely ignored. It then appeared to me that they were actually accusing me of being a shoplifter otherwise they surely would have offered to get a basket for me and allow me to continue shopping. It also appears that the security guard must have been following me as this incident took place at the rear of the store and his post is at the front door. Naturally I am seething at this treatment and my question is............. should I forget it and boycott Aldi or take my complaint further. I cannot find an email address for Aldi Head office, so perhaps someone can help? Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - purplebear7 - 07-03-13 :rolleyes Well I recon you got off light mate .. lots of shops 'Jobs Worth' on the door would have been looking for some Brownie points .. you would have been held in the back office until the Police arrived .. and if you got stroppy at any point .. shoplifting charges might have been on the cards, all the evidence was against you! Count your blessings .. walk away and put it down to another bit of info in your brain box .. life is way too short to go looking for further aggro. Go back in again next week .. get a basket and have a laugh over it ![]() Just in my opinion pf course ![]() Stay Safe 8) Polar Bear Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - Robbie8666 - 07-03-13 I can sympathsise with your plight. just been digging around on t'internet I would write to roman Heini and copy in the local store manager I wouldn't mention about a boycott as they are happy to lose one customer but wait to see what response you get back Roman Heini, UK joint managing director "The full name of our company is Aldi Stores Limited. We are registered in England & Wales under registration number 02321869. Our registered address is Holly Lane, Atherstone, Warwickshire, CV9 2SQ. You can contact us by post at our registered address stated above. " Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - noggythenog - 07-03-13 It was outta order & you shouldnt put up with it,if more folk kicked off at bad service & bad manners then we'd actually be able to get on with our days much easier& happier.all this bag crap does my head in & ive used the bag whilst shopping coz if you put the bag in the basket & use the basket then the bag's already taken half the space up before youve started. To be fair aldi are usually pretty good, usually happy to help, polite etc.it's not your fault that they have a high level of shoplifting & they're obviously the wrong people for that job if they lack conflict management skills.they'll be doing full cavity searches next & making you purchase the rubber gloves!!! :b Trouble is we're not treated like valued customers keeping them in the job, they make you feel like it's a priviledge to spend your hard earned in their stores & lets be honest most supermarkets are shit but we still need food. Complain & something will be said to them, you may not hear about it,it wont make a great difference to your no doubt busy life, but at least you said something, theres too much of a walk on by culture these days with more serious stuff than this. Reading online-"complaints in the retail food market cost about £50 per 100 customers", so it's in their interest to keep us happy. Aldi apparently dont have an email complaints option, they rely on letters being sent which obviously deters allot o folk. Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - Tori - 07-03-13 I'm not sure what the problem is to be fair. The company now supplies you with a basket, why nto use it? You only have to empty your own bag at the till, just to fill it again? You had not left the shop, so no one accused you of anything? A bag was left on a shelf full of goods and you walked off and left it? It could of been anything? Maybe they had not been watching you at all, and were just concerned. Good practice I'd say, protecting their customers? Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - spoonlamp - 07-03-13 I was under the impression that you haven't stolen anything until you leave the premises. If your method of conveying your shopping is in your bag, up your coat or on your head it shouldn't make any difference. However, people aren't perfect, if shoplifting has been going on then this would be a way to deter the guilty without having to go through the hassle of trying to catch them as they bolt out the door... I would let it go. Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - noggythenog - 07-03-13 How does forcing the use of baskets stop shoplifting?.....just run out the shop with the basket...added bonus dilligaf is that you get a nice basket to put in yur shed for those fiddly bike bits....think about that next time your out breaking the law!!! ![]() Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - locksmith - 07-03-13 If they wanted to nick you for theft (why give it a lesser name such as lifting?) they would have waited until you attempted to leave the store. So all i can imagine is that you smell of wee and was putting the rest of the shoppers off :lol Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - bigbluebear - 07-03-13 You should have told him there are much better stores to steal from than his shitey ALDI Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - Revilo18 - 07-03-13 Well, who would've though Anthony Worrall Thompson was a Fazer owner :lol ! I used to get followed all the time by rubbish shop security. Had fun winding them up going abck and forth beetween two isles over and over again. Meanwhile some proper crim was probably emptying the booze isle at the front.... Oh just realised that you don't own a bike - still, doesn't mean your not AWT. Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - sure2ride - 07-03-13 I'm with spoonlamp and locksmith. As far as I recall from my dim and distant past, a shoplifting offence is not comitted until you leave the premises. It might be a bit tricky to get away with this if you had a large coat with loads of poacher pockets tho ![]() They sound like a bunch of nobs. FWIW as far as I remember from the law of contract it is only when you get to the till that and the purchase is rung through that you are the person actually making the offer to purchase the goods at the price indicated, and it is the store who can, or maynot, accept that offer. Hence if an item is wrongly priced they can refuse to sell it because technically it is you making the offer. On the other hand, it could just be that you is a suspicious looking guy ![]() ![]() But I would be steaming mad if I found them going through my bag without my permission, that is tantamount to an illegal search. It's really just up to you to decide how much grief you want to cause and whether you really would like to continue shopping there. If you do, then I would certainly take it up with local, then regional management. Basically I think they are in the wrong because they conducted the search when you were not present, and even if they found a kilo of cocaine in there, it doesn't prove it was there when you left the bag on the shelf......sorry, but pay peanuts and get monkeys...they are dickheads! Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - Lazarus - 07-03-13 can wee both sides. From ALDI - unattended bag which could have contained anything - could also have been situated for a quick snatch and grab runner from the shop. From you - PERSONAL shopping bag which COULD have contained personal items. HOWEVER, i think what pisses you off the most is not what happened, but how they dealt with it. they COULD have handed over a basket and informed you that the stores policy was to deter the use of personal bags whilst shopping and use the provided baskets. They could have assisted with transferring the goods to the basket for you. but, they decided to be arsey about it. my advice would just to laugh it off - lifes too short to worry about thsee kinda things. Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - caretaker - 07-03-13 hmmm... i'm thinking, 'no smoke without fire'. can you please post a copy of all your criminal records to date, and a suitable mug shot so we can judge whether you look suspicious or not. :lol Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - dickturpin - 07-03-13 not sure where you are but this is one of their regional offices that could supply an email address 01827 711800 Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - taylor - 07-03-13 a security guard in aldi,?? have they got anything worth shoplifting, lol, perhaps a horse in the freezer. :rollin take some saddle bags in next time they are prob used to that. :lol Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - Slaninar - 07-03-13 I always carry a backpack. 99% of the time. People at shops often stop me, ask me to leave the backpack/bag (if I carry one). I have tried several things so far and they worked (different tactic for different security/clerks): 1) "No, I really can't leave my backpack with you... No. I can't". Being polite, apologetic, understanding, but stuborn. ![]() 2) "No, I can't leave my backpack, I have very valuable things inside, but I will be happy to show it to you for inspection before I leave the premises". 3) "When I go stealing I never carry a backpack, it draws too much attention. I just stuff stuff in the pockets of my baggy trowsers and wind jacket. Much simpler and faster!" On one occasion it didn't work and I got real aggressive, asking to see the manager and so on. "I came here to buy leave money at your shop, not steal." It worked, but I felt bad for having to be rude to the security guy (he was doing what he was ordered). In all the occasions, I insisted that they do strip search me if in any doubt, admiting there are a lot of thieves and you never know - however innocent looking, if a man is a thief. I can now enter shops with a baseball cap, baggy trowsers, backpack, looking suspicious as hell, but no problem, security guys just remember "THAT stuborn idiot" and leave me be. ![]() Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - Chillum - 08-03-13 I remember some eejit tried to force me to hand over my lid when I went in to the cinema. I replied that as long as they gave me a receipt for it and accepted liability for any damage (considering that it is a life saving piece of equipment). They declined and just let me go. A letter to head office in this instance is about the most you are going to be able to do, they may even send you a good-will voucher and have a quiet word with the shop manager. If that's what you're after then go for it, otherwise as mentioned - life's too short to worry about dickheads. Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - DILLIGAFF - 08-03-13 Thanx team For the record there were no high value items in the bag.............. milk, chicken thighs, leeks, tea bags etc. so I would have been a pretty piss poor shoplifter. Not exactly positioned for a snatch and dash either as it was at the rear of the store. I also remember having to dodge endless buggies stuffed with Aldi produce and THEY weren't searched whereas I had only the one bag and made no attempt to leave the store. I have calmed down a bit since yesterday and think they can just do without my trade in the future. Re: ALDI WOES.................advice needed - Farjo - 08-03-13 Maybe what happened is that no security guard was following you, it was just that one spotted an apparently abandoned bag and decided to put the stuff back on the shelves? In any case leaving bags unattended in London is asking for trouble!
