Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - portboy - 03-03-13 Just a thought lads......... www.venhill.co.uk/Cables_-_Components_&_Kits/Universal_Cable_Kits/U01-11-100_UNIVERSAL_EXUP_CABLE_REPAIR_KIT.html Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - b1k3rdude - 03-03-13 ta. Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - sadlonelygit - 03-03-13 nipples not up to it..............where have i heard that before! Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - portboy - 03-03-13 sorry fella did'nt mean to piss on yer chips........ :o Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - Topcat2006 - 03-03-13 They wont sell them as they cannot get the nipples to stay on. I ordered some in December only for them to call me and then refund my payment as they knew they would not work.... If a soldered nipple can stay on the end of a clutch cable then it should work for the exup cable. The issue with those 2mm grub screws by the looks of it is you can screw them in tight enough. That and if the cable outers are poorly adjusted then stress is being undully places on said nipple screws etc pulling them out. Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - Topcat2006 - 03-03-13 Venhills reason was that the heat of the exhaust meant the solder went fluid and the nipple would fall off. Apparently Yamaha use a higher temperature solder which they dont have and rhwy did not reccomend the grub screw ones as the heat caused the grub screws to work loose.... Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2 Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - b1k3rdude - 04-03-13 well another option I'm guessing would be to use a pushbike cable repair kit, but again I don't know the temp range of the solder used. I got curious so looked up various temps - normal solder - 190c silver solder - 450c silver brazing - 600c Brass brazing - 900c Copper brazing - 1100c So I wonder what temp the bottom of the headers gets too..? Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - sadlonelygit - 04-03-13 several peeps have used the venhill soldered kit and reported swift failure of the nipples, hence why venhill don't offer it any more. with the r&d required, investment in tooling etc for brazing against potential sales it's not worth their while putting their reputation on the line when it focc's up. better off finding a decent s/h set............and funnily enough ![]() Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - Tmation - 04-03-13 The heat required for brazing damages the small diameter cable so the cable will snap just on the outside of the nipple. Best thing to do is swage them on with a hydraulic press. Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - b1k3rdude - 04-03-13

Re: Exup cable replacement cheap alternative ? - tex - 07-03-13 Yes found it today, it is venhill, they are doing replacement cables for the exups, not sure if it includes our one. I am going to give them a ring over the weekend, as the pevious posts on here said they were not very good , and stopped making them. It was advertised in the mag a few months ago, so i would presume it is new!! tex |
