Hey everyone,
While replacing my rear mudguard a few weeks back I realised I could probably gain more under seat storage by cutting out the curved part which comes upwards (the base of the under seat storage compartment) and replacing it with a flat piece of plastic to get extra room.
Since I've got a rear hugger I don't see why I need the mudguard to come up the way it does and it takes up valuable space in the under seat compartment.
Has anyone else thought about this/have any ideas? Any thoughts/input appreciated!
I think I'll have a practise with plastic welding on my old rear mudguard first!

I think you will have issues when you hit a bump and your back wheel rises up in comparison with the plastic you want to cut out

Now THAT is a good point!
I have a tank bag but it's not ideal for carrying around uni once I'm there, I store my textile trousers under my seat which is quite a squeeze! So I till want to see if it can be done, maybe the wheel doesn't come up that far?Thanks guys[/quote]

compress the rear spring with a clicky strap and you`ll see how much room you have......split the difference to leave a bit of clearence and you should be ok.......think you might be onto something here

The literature quotes 120mm rear wheel travel. It might be easier to position the bike on the centre stand and pack the rear wheel so it is just supported, then disconnect the dog bones and put another 120mm packing under the wheel. Then stand back and see what you have got.
Good idea for more space if it works, so do let us know.

Is it really worth all the hassle for about 10mm extra space, I think not. Especially since you can get a tank bag, tail pack or backpack for £30 upwards.

Of course, I wasnt implying dont try it, just that I think there wont be much room to gain!
Lots of times I have spend ages playing with something that has resulted in nothing on the first attempts!
