Tank badge - Chris - 15-02-13 Hey guys, Bit of a random question. My bike is an 02 plate foxeye. The tank has the word yamaha on the side of it (see picture) but from what I can see other foxeye's have the yamaha tuning fork logo instead. It also says in the "changes by year" thread that this changed when it became the foxeye. Has my bike got an aftermarket tank or is it just that some still had the word instead of the logo on them? ![]() Re: Tank badge - Motorbreath - 15-02-13 (15-02-13, 12:04 AM)Chris link Wrote: or is it just that some still had the word instead of the logo on them? Re: Tank badge - Chris - 15-02-13 Hey, it was taken at a the top of a hill, known as the mossy hill. In the background you can see St Ninians Isle, more info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Ninian's_Isle. It is the uk's biggest active tombolo too, lovely place. you should all come and visit me. haha Chris Re: Tank badge - His Dudeness - 15-02-13 cool looks like a great spot for a holiday. always wondered where the uk's biggest tombolo was :lol Re: Tank badge - Chris - 15-02-13 (15-02-13, 12:37 AM)His Dudeness link Wrote: always wondered where the uk's biggest tombolo was :lol I'm sure it kept you up at nights wondering... hahaha. It is an amazing place though. ![]() Re: Tank badge - packie - 15-02-13 Chris..... Mine is an '02 plate as well and same color, but it has the tuning fork logo. The tuning Fork logo changed on the fairing in '02, but the it only changed on the tank in '03. So I think you are ok and it is I who needs to ask questions!! See here: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,34.0.html Re: Tank badge - Dead Eye - 15-02-13 Looks to me like the tank logo changed when the tank shape did. Chris's has the same shape tank as my 51 plate whereas packie has the latest (and subsequent) version Re: Tank badge - Chris - 15-02-13 I'm not sure deadeye, The picture makes my tank look a lot flatter than it is. I'm pretty sure mine is more sculpted than the orional tanks fitted to the pre foxeye ones. Which theoretically means it must be the 22ltr capacity one as the tank shape only changed once and that was in 2002. Either way I can still get way over 200+ miles out of a tank so i'm not complaining. haha! It seemed to me that my tank was slightly higher. But having a vast knowledge of photography, I also understand that this might be false and that both photos could be misleading due to the different angles and distance form the bikes that the photos were taken. Nice clean bike btw, Chris. Re: Tank badge - Chris - 15-02-13 Cheers Clayt74. 8) @Packie, Yes, the photo is slightly missleading. If you look at the tank just above the Y of Yamaha then you can see it is going up to a kind of peak before it goes down towards the seat. I belive if it was the older style tank then it's profile would be much flatter and wouldn't peak quite so much before going down to the seat. ![]() ![]() Tank looks bigger in this picture: ![]() Re: Tank badge - Dead Eye - 15-02-13 My apologies - god damned photo trickery ![]() The second photo makes it a lot easier to see that it is the latest shape (and hence the same) Re: Tank badge - red98 - 15-02-13 think the answer is in the mileage...... the best my 98 600 ( small tank ) can manage is 200 miles per tank...on a long motorway trip taking it nice and easy ........only ever done that once :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes ......i would say you have the new tank with the old style lettering.....think iam right in saying that 2002 was the first year for foxeye so might explain it ![]() Re: Tank badge - unfazed - 15-02-13 The first Foxeye was 5RT1 in 2002, it had the YAMAHA logo on the tank and came in 3 Colours Deep Purplish Blue Metalic (which is the one you have) Silver 1 Reddish Yellow Cocktail 1 The revised version of the Foxeye was the 5RT4 in 2003, it had the tuning fork logo on the tank and also came in 3 Colours Deep Purplish Blue Metalic (Same as yours but with the tuning fork logo) Silver 1 Vivid Red Cocktail 1 All had a tank size of 22 litres which was a 2 litre increase over the last of the Square eye models Re: Tank badge - Chris - 15-02-13 Cheers buddy, what a helpful bunch you are 8) |
