suzuki gsxr 750 - markbubble - 03-02-13

hi guys,iv been offered a gsxr 750 'slingshot' air and oil cooled bike at a fair price but have any of you lot had one or know what the problems/expensive repair parts are on these bikes? iv always fancied one but dont want to buy a pill of rubbish or expensive repair bill!

How old is that!  Potentially loads of problems I'd have thought.

Is it the slabsided one? A mate has one, she's not exactly known for good maintenance, but its almost bombproof. The plastics are looking very old, but everything mechanical is just lovely...

Re: suzuki gsxr 750 - markbubble - 04-02-13

its not a slabby its next one (its a j) still the air/oil cooled engine ,carbs etc bit rough around the edges but i dont mind doing paint etc just dont want spend a fortune on parts!

Had a K3 750R bought new, great fun, very quick although I would think it has slowed down now if it's still around, servicing was on par with the Fazer as no carbs to balance (my Fazer is an 02 Foxeye), much quicker though.

Pretty solid bikes matey, biggest problem you will have will be is it standard many by now have been modified some hopelessly and run like shite!

Some parts and now very hard to get hold of mostly genuine bodywork, lack of maintenance and poor quality build will do the rest rear shock was crap and the head races lacked grease from the factory.  That said if it's been looked after and it's the very first "sling shot" the 88 J model their a classic and still bloody fast if you know how to ride them the later 89 K had poofy shiny sleeves on the silencers colours were pretty much the same on both 89 saw the black version very nice!

By todays standards they are a little lacking in the performance steaks but looks wise I still think their awesome!
