Small puddle of water on floor by left side of centre stand!? - Hobgoblin - 02-02-13

Hi all, after a ride of 50 miles or so today, and a good 6 hrs after getting home, I'm in the garage and hear a ' trickle '. There appears a small puddle on the left of the centre stand, which came from an overflow pipe above. It seems to go onto a splitter, then into a plastic box behind the carbs underneath the battery tray area. Is there any reason for this, and is it normal? I changed the coolant last week, but the levels are spot on tonight after the first ride inĀ  about a month.
Can anyone put my mind at rest?!
Thanks, Keith.

Does it smell like coolant or like water?

Not sure to be honest, it is the first ride it's been on since changing the coolant though. I should have checked prior to soaking it up! It was definitely water though, not fuel!

just looked at the parts list for a fzs fazer, there is a drain pipe that comes from the air box.which goes in to a t junction

Edit: oops beat me to it

Yeah looks like it splits in two but both sides go in to the airbox near the rubbers.

That's the one! Is that just condensation because I've ridden it on a cold day, got it home and parked it up in a freezing garage do you think?

I dunno for sure but I guess so, makes sense and there must be a drain in that location for a reason.

Cheers for your help! I'll hope it's that and nothing else! I knew I should only take it out when it's 20 degrees or above!!!

Have you changed the air filter at all, may be due for a replacement?

Also, next time you get the bike warm put it on the centre stand and let the bike tick over for a while and keep an eye on the coolant expansion tank, you can see it looking under the rear wheel arch on the right hand side, and see if it fills up and boils at all.
You may have a clogged up system, which then sends boiling coolant to the expansion tank then comes out of the overflow pipe.
Once the bike gets cool again it will suck the fluid back into the system then you'll notice a dropped level in the expansion tank.
If it does do this you'll need to do a radiator flush, i normally leave it in for 2 or 3 days so it gets hot/cold/hot/cold and it gives it a thorough clean.

Hi, I changed the air filter in october, and the coolant level in the expansion tank, aswell as the filler neck under the fuel tank, are both spot on what they should be. Seems weird that it waited til I was standing in the garage hours later before it decided to drain out!!!

Just sounds like it's doing what it's meant to do, as long as your levels stay the same i wouldn't worry about it.

I'll sleep better now thanks. I hate niggling things like this!
