Importance of the lifesaver - HarryHornby - 28-01-13 I comute on my bike every day and while I do keep a good eye on my mirrors and have a good feel for what's approaching and around me I always lifesave before commiting to a manouver (lane change, roundabout exit etc). 99% of the time there is nothing there and all is good, but today, came off a round about onto a dual carriageway (slow lane), wanted to over take the slower cars in my lane and make progress, did my usual life saver and there it was, a car toally in my blind spot! Rolled off the throttle slightly, let him pass, checked mirrors, 2nd life saver and I'm off in the overtaking lane, no dramas ![]() Why am I writing this? Because I see a lot of riders (mainly learners) who just indicate and pull out into traffic and one day, they will be knocked off! Never underestimate the power of the life saver.......... As they say, there's a reason it's called a lifesaver. Re: Importance of the lifesaver - JZS 600 - 28-01-13 Good to know it worked! I had this woman driver this morning who pulled into the lane I was in right beside me (on the A2, 3 lane carriageway) . I don't care but WE WERE MAKING EYE CONTACT AT THE TIME AND SHE STILL CHANGED LANES! FFS! Re: Importance of the lifesaver - dazza - 28-01-13 Was it an ex-girlfriend ? ![]() Re: Importance of the lifesaver - Lawrence - 28-01-13 (28-01-13, 08:22 PM)JZS 600 link Wrote: I don't care but WE WERE MAKING EYE CONTACT AT THE TIME AND SHE STILL CHANGED LANES! FFS!I think a lot of people drive on auto-pilot and just don't pay attention. I've had people pull out of junctions in front of me after looking straight at me before. Wouldn't have been surprised if I was on the bike but I was in a Land Rover at the time :rolleyes Re: Importance of the lifesaver - JZS 600 - 28-01-13 She had lovely eyes though..... Re: Importance of the lifesaver - locksmith - 28-01-13 Wether car or bike always look at the space you want to move in to! Re: Importance of the lifesaver - ChrisJH - 28-01-13 I had a test drive in this at the weekend, the wing mirrors have an Amber / Red triangle that flashes to let you know their is something approaching on a sensor system, also the steering wheel "rummbles" if you drift out towards your lane and your not indicating or move left / right whilst the Amber / Red lights on ![]() Re: Re: Importance of the lifesaver - stevierst - 28-01-13 (28-01-13, 08:55 PM)locksmith link Wrote: Wether car or bike always look at the space you want to move in to!Yep, I live by this too. Can't really go wrong with a lifesaver. 8) Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2 Re: Importance of the lifesaver - Skippernick - 28-01-13 (28-01-13, 09:30 PM)ChrisJH link Wrote: I had a test drive in this at the weekend, the wing mirrors have an Amber / Red triangle that flashes to let you know their is something approaching on a sensor system, also the steering wheel "rummbles" if you drift out towards your lane and your not indicating or move left / right whilst the Amber / Red lights on F**k me does it make coffee as well. No wonder driving standards are getting worse with this kind of tech in cars. I don't need to think because the car does it for me!! Although i guess its catch 22. Re: Importance of the lifesaver - richfzs - 28-01-13 That's my take on it, skipper - I don't want a car that thinks for me, I think it will just encourage more lazy driving. Re: Importance of the lifesaver - Chillum - 30-01-13 Didn't someone do a survey once that ripped out all the air bags on a car and replaced it with a spike on the steering wheel - they were amazed at how much everyone's driving improved :evil Re: Importance of the lifesaver - shady - 30-01-13 100% agree the lifesaver is indeed that, l commute in heavy traffic daily and l must admit a few times over the years just after l checked my mirrors and was about to move into another lane l looked over my shoulder to spot a car in my blind spot, quick change of mind about the manoeuvre ! It doesn t look too cool constantly checking your mirrors and looking over your shoulder but you ll live a lot longer thats for sure ![]() Re: Importance of the lifesaver - ChristoT - 31-01-13 (30-01-13, 10:24 PM)Chillum link Wrote: Didn't someone do a survey once that ripped out all the air bags on a car and replaced it with a spike on the steering wheel - they were amazed at how much everyone's driving improved :evil Yup! Actually, it wasn't improvement as such, the drivers just went slower, and left bigger spaces. Not to say they looked where they were supposed to be going. :rolleyes Re: Importance of the lifesaver - Tourx4 - 31-01-13 I'm currently a learner and i'm riding my much loved CG125 lola, on my cbt i was taught LIFESAVER, LIFESAVER AND MORE LIFESAVERS plus trust no one on the road. This has saved my life on many occasions PLUS i was taught my cbt by a damn good school!!!! ![]() Re: Importance of the lifesaver - DryRob - 31-01-13 Not always the case though, not all schools are good schools and it also depends on the rider. For some reason there appears to be an impression that having a CBT isnt as dangerous a full licence. |
