Ignition Barrel - 5LV - camroc5 - 07-01-13

Hi all , I seem to have run into a problem.

I have a 2004 FZS1000 (5LV) and the Ignition Barrel is broken. The key is loose , comes out when turned on , power flickers, bike cuts out and is unsafe.
I ordered a replacement from a 2003-5LV and it does not fit.
The orignial has 2 block connecters , one with 2 wires the other with 5 wires.
The Replacement has one with 2 wires , but the other block only has 3 wires.

I know that the 1C2 model is different and it has the 3 wire block connecter but does anyone know if there is two versions of the 5LV model.
I was thinking I may have been sold the wrong part but they where sure its a 2003-5LV , then I thought that even though mine is reg'ed 2004 it could be a 2002 model.

Can I use any other Ignition Barrel , or am i stuck finding a 2001-2002 model.
or
Does anyone know if I can still 'Wire' the two connectors block together?.

Thanks,
Camroc

I can't answer the question but suspect the one you have got is off the earlier models with switchable headlights and yours is permanent headlights???

Not sure if that helps.....

My bike is with the switchable headlights on the Right-Hand side.
Mode 1 is front-side lights and rear lights , mode 2 is full front and rear.

Maybe thats the extra two wires are for.

Do you know when they changed the model to always on lights?

Re: Ignition Barrel - 5LV - solorider - 08-01-13

the 2003 to 2005 had the same switch http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/spares/partImage.asp?GPN=Z%3AQ%5B%3D7%3A567555&uid=0 it is possible that the lock you bought was from a 2002 model registered in 2003

Re: Ignition Barrel - 5LV - sirgalahad3 - 08-01-13

The difference is indeed due to the hard wired lights on in the 03+ on bikes. If a bike/car is right on a change of spec like this it is sods law you will get the wrong part..giving the reg is no help as the bike could be a late registered early one..
You need to swop your new lock!!

As above, I had same problem early this year. It is as said pre light and post light switch.

It's one of the few minor changes over the years.

Re: Ignition Barrel - 5LV - camroc5 - 24-01-13

Ok then , I just messed up bad  :'(

I ordered the part from the above link , and its wrong. I didnt look at my VIN number correctly before i ordered.

So..... just to be sure, can someone confirm.

I have a Fazer 1000 with VIN number JYARN061.........
It has the headlight swith on the right hand side.

Does this mean its a 2001-2002 version of the bike?
Does it matter thats its an EX-UP version , or are they all?

I can order the part for the 'RN061' version , but I have been looking around the interwebs and Ebay , and some pictures for the 2001-02 model only show 1 connection box (with 4 wires).

The broken part on my bike has 2 cables under the petrol tank , one has 2 wires that power the bike when connected , the other has 5 wires. I have not yet traced these , to see what each does. I need to wait till weekend to strip the wires. I am gonna try and hardwire a switch of some kind untill I can be sure Im getting the correct part.

Re: Ignition Barrel - 5LV - sirgalahad3 - 25-01-13

Not sure about vin numbers but if your bike has a headlight switch its one of the earlier ones, probably pre 03.
All Fazers are exup versions.
Some ebay sites use a common pic of a part whatever it is.
May I suggest you talk to a supplier and discuss with him exactly what you want as ebay is sure to go wrong under situations like this...
May I also suggest you dont strip/bodge wires as that will also wrong!
