Rev Counter 0 to 3k - bigandyuk1 - 28-12-12

Hi, I am new to the forum and new to my gen 1 fazer. I have owned the bike for just over a week. I purchased it privately and rode it 50 miles home without issue. When I rode it to work on day two of my ownership it seemed to be hessitating below 3000rpm but if i gave it a handful of throttle it would pull hard with no problems. I have bought a service kit and intened to go through it this weekend. This morning on the way to work the rev counter suddenly dropped to 0 and then went up to 3k where it stayed for a couple of seconds and then returned to normal. After this had happened the bike was very smooth with no hessitation!!!! then the hessatation returned and a few miles later everything repeated itself (smoothing out again after the faukt had been shown). Ant thoughts greatly appreciated. :eek

you have an issue with your throttle position sensor, first check the wiring and the contacts on the plug

Thanks, I will take a look whilst I am servicing it tomorrow.

Remember to service the exup valve while your working on the bike. Pats page has a good guide to this and setting the tps.

Re: Rev Counter 0 to 3k - bigandyuk1 - 31-12-12

Motherf****r..... I removed the exup cover (which came off extremely easily!) the pulley has been removed and presumably binned, the valve was seized and the with the greatest will in the world I still managed to shear off all three bolts *!*&%$!£*** :'(

Re: Rev Counter 0 to 3k - sadlonelygit - 03-01-13

£50 now

seriously now, don't get mad with it. get the down pipes off (hope the bolts aren't blobs of rust) and get an engineering firm to drill/tap the holes.
it's a do once only job as you'll never forget to service your exup again :lol

don't be too dispirited about taking the pipes to an engineer - i had to do the same and it cost 60quid and, as mentioned, it's a 'do once' job.

Pipes are off and waiting for me to take to an engineer, also managed to buy another set which are good and will go back on tomorrow £100 for second hand set  Smile  The piece on the back of the pipes was broken off so needed welding anyway.

Thanks for all the advice.

Re: Rev Counter 0 to 3k - bigandyuk1 - 15-01-13

Big Grin  Header pipes and exup valve replaced, TPS replaced. Now thats better, no lurching just smooth power and acceleration.

nice one mate

The amount of people who have had the same problem on this site is unreal.....me included  :o .

i took the pipes off and put them in a pillar drill, actually came out really easily.

keep on top of it now, service it often i find is the best. might be pain but means you get quick at doing the job, and dont spare the copper grease!!! Smile
