Optimate question - Streetbudgie - 06-12-12

Is it ok to connect an Optimate charger tot he battery terminals while the battery is still connected in the bike?

Absolutely, thats the whole point (well not the whole point, but a lot of the point) of them, and its why they supply the leads with waterproof cover that you leave sticking out at a suitable point, so you don't need to keep taking the seat off etc.

Ta, thought it was but it's been a long time since I've used it and the memory is not what it used to be  Smile

I've got a 12 volt  socket fitted on the fairing and connected straight to the battery via a fuse to plug charger in without having to access the battery, makes life a lot easier.

Always be careful when connecting to a battery, if its a charger make sure its turned off when you connect it and when you disconnect it, if you're using a spare to jump it off connect the earth lead last to a point 18 inches away from the battery and remove this first after starting.  A mate was jump starting a car and did it battery to battery, blew the battery up on his range rover, luckly  he was next to a tap so washed him self down, but his clothes weren't so lucky.
