xbox - chilly - 12-11-12

I ASKED YOUR ADVICE ABOUT THESE THINGS A FEW WEEKS AGO AND HAVE FOUND A BARGAIN Big Grin  XBOX 360 320 GIG WITH KINNECT THING 1 CONTROLLER A STAR WARS GAME AND A SPORT GAME FROM MORRISONS £200  Big Grin . SHE NOT FUSSED ON STAR WARS BUT SHE CAN SWAP IT FOR SOMETHING ELSE IM SURE. WILL HAVE TO GET A SKIN FOR IT COS IT LOOKS VERY STAR WARSY BUT APART FROM THAT IM SURE SHE WILL BE MADE UP. I AM! :lol

Re: xbox - Lawrence - 12-11-12

If you get a skin, make sure it'll come off again (if it's sticky) without damaging anything.  I'm sure a star wars one will be worth a few quid in a couple of years Big Grin  Iirc the star wars console makes R2D2 beep noises when you switch it on/off  :lol

Re: xbox - Tiberius Onklevaart - 12-11-12

Yes, get it but rap the shouting

Re: xbox - Chillum - 13-11-12

If you are buying it second hand you might want to make sure that the previous owner  hasn't been banned from Xbox live for copying games or wotnot - it applies to the box itself iirc.

Otherwise a fantastic deal. If it's retail, give me a nod Smile

Re: xbox - chilly - 13-11-12

not second hand it's brand new. it's all wrapped up and in the loft out of the way Wink . the young fella i spoke too said they are just selling them off cheap £200 because people don't want the star wars themed ones.

Re: xbox - noggythenog - 13-11-12

Trouble with the star wars theme is that by the time it is a collectors item in the future the machine will be total obsolete or knackered.

That being said, i was watching auction hunters thing last night and a couple o yanks sold an original pong game for about 700 dollars and people used to chuck them in the skip.so ive now got my playstation 1 plus the box in the attic until such time :rolleyes

Personally i like the sounds of the star wars theme but i like geeky stuff

Shit.....that means im a geek!!!!! :lol

Surely being a collectors item renders it unobsolete

Re: xbox - Chillum - 13-11-12

If you like old gaming tech try this..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vectrex

I've got one in my garage (and it still works) - it's still pretty cool even now

Re: xbox - noggythenog - 13-11-12

Never seen a vectrex before, surely very rare indeed,

Fair one tiberius, maybe only obsolete if its knackered, silly me,

I just wouldnt trust modern electronic stuff lasting as long as the old consoles.

Typically theres a new xbox coming out-the 720 but i cant see them stopping all the 360 stuff anytime soon,
I'd much rather they did add ons, updates or improvements to the 360.

With most things this is a fairly safe bet, but not with early electronics. The PNP depletion zone 'migrates' over time, i.e. the P and N silicon 'bleeds' into one another. This depletion zone represents the triggering voltage for the silicon transistors and iirc is 0.7V for Si. If the chip is left long enough, and the depletion zone increases, the required voltage to overcome the zone rises (before the transistor will conduct) and can burn out the chip - had it happen on a number of bits of kit, most recently the colour chip on an N64 Zelda cartridge Smile

If you have old electronics, you need to fire it up now and again to prevent the depletion zone from getting too big.

Re: xbox - HarryHornby - 14-11-12

I bought an XBox at the weekend.....just thought I would say.  Smile

Re: xbox - DryRob - 14-11-12

get the kids skyrim and you'll never see or hear from them again  Smile

Re: xbox - noggythenog - 15-11-12

I was gifted skyrim last christmas, its a cool game but i just cant get into it,you need some serious time on your hands for that game,as in never leave the house time,

With my short attention span my go to game just has to be battlefield 3

After a stressful day theres nothing quite like opening up on full automatic against some online friends, plus tanks, jets, rockets, boats.truely ace game.

Re: xbox - noggythenog - 15-11-12

Hey chillum,i know we're off topic but i didnt know that about old electronics, what a bummer!

Do you happen to know if the same applies for old synths, drum machines, grooveboxes from the 90's?

Ive got a german 90's groovebox that i was gonna keep til it was vintage but if it's gonna be knackered then i best sell it immediately and buy fazer bling instead, its all anologue dials and buttons but i noticed last time i tried it the lcd display was jumping around a bit, i found repeatedly turning the knobs back and forth seemed to loosen it up a bit.

Anything with a microchip in it (think TTL/CMOS) The surface mount stuff probably isn't as susceptable as they are a lot more finely layered than the old chips (which are more like alternate coloured lego bricks stuck together in comparison).

IT isn't all doom and gloom if you have old kit, you just need to power it up for 10 minutes every six months or so. No guarantee, but it should help.

Re: xbox - noggythenog - 15-11-12
