heated grips keep turning themselves off - phillywilly - 02-11-12 i already had some oxford heated grips on the bike when i bought it and they seem to be very well fitted , also wired up to a non permanent live so it dont drain battery when ignition off . however what i,ve found is that they are fine all the time when throttle is open and im cruising but if the revs go down as in traffic they turn off ! they will flash (the 25% light )when i go to put them back on but the only way if im in traffic/town and want them back on is to turn off my luights -then they will stay on - but i prefer to keep headlights on whilst riding battery is fine -it holds the charge great and once a month i go to trickle charge it and it only takes the charge for ten seconds and it is full, so i can assume the alternator is working fine to keep battery good :wall any one any idea ? Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - AdieR - 02-11-12 As your revs drop, your alternator charge will be slightly less; your grips are cutting out to save your battery. It's how the Oxford grips are intended to operate, so you've nothing to worry about, I get the same with mine. Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - Skippernick - 02-11-12 However i have oxford grips and mine don't cut out at tick over. Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - JZS 600 - 03-11-12 I just fitted mine yesterday so it will be interesting to see how they get on Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - darrsi - 03-11-12 What idiot thought that brainwave up? Just 'cos your bike's ticking over doesn't mean the weather's got any warmer! :rolleyes Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - bozboz - 03-11-12 I had a similar problem with an old honda/oxford grips. Gave up with them-everytime they turned off I'd have to remove my hand from the warmth of the handlebar muff into the cold! I'm currenlty using R&G heated grips (as the oxford ones are now ridicuously expensive -£60+?!!) wired via the brown (ignition on live) no problems through revs and it remembers the heat setting when the ignition is turned on/off! Highly recommended! ![]() Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - phillywilly - 03-11-12 the trouble is ,is that you have to wait till you get up to speed then glance down at heater controls and take one hand off handle bars and fumble around with a thick gloved finger trying to push the small power button and keep one eye on where you are travelling at the same time :eek you would think that it would be put it on and it stays on ADIER - does your grips turn off when lights are off or do they stay on if your lights are off ? Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - darrsi - 03-11-12 http://lockitt.com/heatedgripsqa.htm Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - phillywilly - 03-11-12 cheers for the link darsi . explains everything Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - xlewisbdx - 03-11-12 I am after some heated grips. Someone recommended that I get DR BIKE heated grips. Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - darrsi - 04-11-12 Got an email off M&P the other day, check them out, they were doing cheap deals. Avoid Oxford grips though, they're overpriced and obviously have unwanted issues. They should be wired via ignition, not directly to the battery, otherwise you simply will forget to turn them off. Once you've had heated grips you'll never ride a bike again without them, trust me! ![]() Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - Devic - 04-11-12 I had the same problem with Oxford grips on my old Aprilia, went for the new version, which just had the small control with +/- and 4 Led's for power settings and they packed up after 14 months so considered them an overpriced pile of junk. I had an extra problem though not only would mine switch off when they felt like it they would also switch on when they felt like it so nice hot summers day riding along and the grips switch on to 100% so I ended up disconnecting them. When I asked the shop I got them from they said there had been some problems with the new units, Oxford basically weren't interested and said they were knackered and as the controller unit was sealed not a lot could be done. I got the original push button/dial type Oxford grips on mine as they came with it and touch wood they are ok but when they do go won't be replacing them with Oxford as like others have mentioned they are over priced for what they are. Re: heated grips keep turning themselves off - darrsi - 04-11-12 Just noticed that they sell a replacement Oxford heat control switch on Ebay, but at £32 you may as well buy a different brand of grips for about the same price! :rolleyes |
