Brake judder in the wet? - markaboot - 14-10-12

I was riding the other night in fairly heavy rain in a 30 zone. As I pulled up to a roundabout the last 4 or 5 meters I got what I assume was brake judder. It felt like I lost a bit of braking too and had to squeeze harder.
It only happened once and the bike was fine on the way home but its a little unnerving as I have never experienced it before. The last thing I want to do is go out on a Sunday ride and find I don't have brakes when I really need them.

Has anyone else had this before?
Anything I should be checking?

Thanks

Judder with more effort to squeeze lever often = warped front disc. Having said that, if it was warped it should be doing that all the time from now on.

May be pistons sticking in the calipers - when was the last time they were freed off?

Doubt very much that it's a warped disc, that seems to be peoples immediate response but it's unlikely.
Definitely look towards the calipers being sticky, well worth a bit of TLC if they haven't been cleaned recently.
I had this issue for ages and for me it turned out to be a faulty braided brake line.
But if you haven't got braided lines then there's even more of a possibility it could be standard lines expanding on braking.
I wouldn't be too concerned unless it's a constant thing though!

this may be too simple but are you sure it wasnt a lock up/re-grip moment in the wet? Ive had this before and feels like ABS but is the tyre just skipping on grippy/slippy tarmac. just a thought!

could be related to the pads getting a soaking. what pads have you got?

Could it have been a bit of crap got between disc and pads, which subsequently fell out, restoring normal behaviour?

Unless it does it again, I wouldn't worry about it.
