FZS600 52 Rear brake sticking and Red Hot! - rocketman59 - 10-09-12

Went on short local ride yesterday (no time as usual) and back brake was stuck on with caliper smoking! Left to cool and managed to limp home using front brake (scary). Jet washed her the week prior so probably my own stupid fault. Any ideas on how to fix/remedy? :\
Thanks.

Last time I had a problem like this was on my GSX-R, sticking pistons in the caliper and had the same effect, rode it for a while then started to heat up to a point where you could feel the brake on all the time and having to stop and let it cool down.

Not sure about the newer models but I know one of the things with the earlier Fazers was good maintenance as the rear caliper could seize.

Be worth just dropping the rear caliper off and having a look it's only 5 minutes just to have a look see if there is any damage/road crud to the piston I just done mine without draining any fluid and cleaned up round the pistons as there had been a build up of brake dust and general weather.

Funny you mention the jet wash, I never used one of them but I had problems after a good wash down and scrubbing all round the caliper with a long bristle tyre brush so must have made the dust and stuff go harder.

If it was anything drastic like the piston/s needing replacing if you live in the UK Wemoto do the pistons and seals and quite a reasonable price, can buy them as a kit.

Smoking is a bit worse than normal!
Loads of brake cleaner, red rubber grease and TLC is needed!

go for genuine seals. they're more expensive but definitely worth it

Geniune seals...  my garage quoted me ~120 for the front calipers alone!!!  OEM parts ~30 for the same things.

Not bought any yet.  How much did you pay for the originals and where from???

Ring up Fowlers, they're who bike shops use anyway so may as well cut out the middleman.
They'll ask you for your chassis number, which is on the frame to the front right of the fuel tank i think  :rolleyes

you can get prices from wemoto using the yamaha part number catalogue. FZS600_98_Parts_Cat.pdf

the part number for the seals is 51L-W0047-00-00. just paste that into wemoto's oem search bar. its near the both of their home page. they're £22.44 plus delivery

Re: FZS600 52 Rear brake sticking and Red Hot! - darrsi - 20-09-12

I use Wemoto all the time, but, i don't think they will be genuine Yamaha seals, that's why they're advertised as "top quality spares", because they sell pattern parts! I could be very wrong of course, as usual!
But for 100% genuine parts for sure, it's Fowlers for me!

Re: FZS600 52 Rear brake sticking and Red Hot! - His Dudeness - 20-09-12

nah you're wrong. if you use the part number search they order it in from yamaha. comes in the yamaha packaging. you can email them and ask them if you want

@His Dudeness, fair enough, i believe you enough not to check  Smile

It's just that i noticed that on the website there was no mention anywhere of OEM parts for the seals.  :rolleyes

Re: FZS600 52 Rear brake sticking and Red Hot! - CRH - 20-09-12

you tell him darss?...recon he,s lying to ya mate? :lol ...i would check if i was you? Wink .....

Re: FZS600 52 Rear brake sticking and Red Hot! - His Dudeness - 20-09-12

i'd guess they only list items that they actually stock themselves.

Re: FZS600 52 Rear brake sticking and Red Hot! - darrsi - 21-09-12

That would make them a middleman then wouldn't it, if they have to order it?
Back to Fowlers again, direct.......  :lol

Re: FZS600 52 Rear brake sticking and Red Hot! - His Dudeness - 21-09-12
