gen fazer 1000 differences. - boxer1 - 03-09-12 Hi all, me and a mate did an epic 577 mile round trip from scotland to collect our gen 1 fazer 1000s from the scottish borders to rochdale then from rochdale down to cannock to collect mine, they are both 05 models, but on inspection on one of our coffee stops we noticed a few differences, my one a blue one with black engine had different switchgear on the left handlebar my mate budgies had a hazard warning button and a headlamp flasher unit where mine does,nt have this, it only has the headlamp high beam switch and the horn on it, Can anyone shed some light on this? ![]() Martin. Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - tomlinscote - 03-09-12 Mine is an -04 model (5LV code) and it has the flash and hazard switch. Maybe yours is a US model and maybe they didn't have those switches, not sure though!! Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - boxer1 - 03-09-12 :lol Hi thanks for the reply, i was assured it was a uk model but maybe it was,nt, are there differences between UK and US models? Can anyone shed some light on this? ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - ZiggyCol - 03-09-12 I seem to remember that one of the other differences was imports have side reflectors ? Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - jackojet - 03-09-12 My gen 1 05 reg has high beam, flash pas switch, hazard warning, indicators and horn. On right switch , has start button and engine stop switch. No light switch. As far as I'm aware earlier models had separate light switch on right switchgear. Could be earlier models didn't get hazard switch, on left switchgear, maybe yours has older switchgear on the left bar due to repair? Check to see if you have seperate light switch on the right bar, this may tell you your bike is fitted with earlier model switches. Hope this makes sense ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - jackojet - 03-09-12 If its a US model won't Speedo have kilometres per hour on the Speedo in preference to miles per hour? Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - boxer1 - 03-09-12 Hi, ok it has no light switch on right switchgear only kill switch and starter button, speedo in mph as well, ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - Tmation - 03-09-12 Mine is a 2004 USA import, no flash or hazard switch. There is a vin plate/sticker (white strip just before headstock in picture below), part of the number is a country code so either google it or visit/phone a yamaha dealer. ![]() My speedo is MPH Large with KPH Small. ![]() Better picture of Vin info. ![]() Gratuitous shot ![]() ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - boxer1 - 03-09-12 ![]() ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - boxer1 - 03-09-12 ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - tomlinscote - 03-09-12 No difference in performance, though if the bike was used in the USA the rear shock may need replacing earlier than expected :lol Anyone else notice the screen changes on Tmations fazer.........?? Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - boxer1 - 03-09-12 Hi, its only been used in the uk as far as i,m aware, all the mot,s were done in the uk, it certainly does,nt feel lacking in performance, yes i noticed the screen change , intend to get a vario screen for mine ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - jackojet - 03-09-12 A nice new piug screen instead of MRA vario . Looks very nice too ![]() As regard switch, sure a search on eBay will find one, it depends on wiring plugs enabling working of hazards. Hopefully you won't need them on such a fine machine as the gen1 fazer thou is ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - tomlinscote - 03-09-12 Why bother, I can say that in 8 years of having mine I only use them to check they actually still work, never used them on the road. its just as easy to flick the high beam switch on as to use the flasher IMHO unless of course your lights are not on all the time like mine are. Hazard only works with ign on not like a car (to preserve the battery I would imagine) so its not like you can park it up somewhere and leave the hazards on whilst you do something else. I suppose they could be of some use for filtering but in my experience hardly anyone looks in their rear view mirrors to see you anyway! That said, if the wiring loom has the wires in place I don't see why you couldn't get one from a breaker and fit it. Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - boxer1 - 03-09-12 Hi, all good points, just think they are a usefull tool, not often used i agree but two of my mates have uk fazers and both have had occasion to use them, just a thought though, probably won,t bother unless its an easy job then i may do it :lol loving the bike though , screen i,ll change in time stock ok but need a better one ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - tomlinscote - 03-09-12 No worries, but you may want to check the operation of the EXUP valve as if it had not been looked after it can give grief. Look on Pats Motor Cycle page for loads of info on how to sort it. The link is something like cartestsoftware/fz1 Screens like tyres are a constant subject on here so loads of info and opinions on both, have fun!! Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - Tmation - 03-09-12 If yours is an import from the USA, the wiring is different for the indicators. Mine was modified from the dealer as I believe the indicators are on all the time as running lights and they flash off. Also the connection plugs are different, don't ask me how I know :o . Performance is the same, spare parts fit (apart from the above) and in over eight years of ownership I have never had a problem with genuine or aftermarket parts. Look after it, ride and enjoy ![]() gen fazer 1000 differences. - cable tie - 03-09-12 Welcome fella, I would not worry to much, my 2nd gen 1 had the same left hand switch gear as yours, I changed it due to a fault causing the electrics to go into disco mode on the dash !! And got a switch off the bay for 20 notes had flash and hazards just plugged in and worked no problem. Put some pics up of your new purchase. Dave. Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - boxer1 - 03-09-12 Hi Dave, sounds good, will eventually change to the hazards and flasher if they just plug in all the better ![]() ![]() Re: gen fazer 1000 differences. - boxer1 - 03-09-12 Also intend to have the exup valve checked ![]() ![]() |
