Electrical Question - dickturpin - 29-08-12

Just rigging up a 12v 5w bulb/holder onto a cigar lighter plug so I can have some evening light when camping. The question is how long dare I run it off a fully charged battery and still expect the bike to start the next morning?

Thanks

D

Surely you would be better running LED's, I use longer versions of these in the car

Nice and bright

With a perfectly healthy battery of 14AHr and regarding 50% as a reasonable amount of the available energy to use then it would supply 5 watts for nearly 17 hours.

Don't know if it helps, but I've got a 12v cig lighter socket, with a built in LED (blue), few quid from Halfords.

Good suggestion on the LED strips....I do have a single battery powered LED but the multi LED strip is worth a punt, ready for next trip! Big Grin

Can't you buy a rechargeable camping light that you charge when running the bike during the day?  It'd be safer to have that gap between light and motion!

Re: Electrical Question - Andy FZS - 30-08-12

I bought a re-chargable (240v and 12v) LED inspection lamp from Lidl but have seen similar on Ebay I would think that would work well without the fear of a flat battery.

or you get the wind up camping lanterns/torches - i know its a PITA winding them up but you only get the light when you need it

I've flattened my battery by running the hazards for a bit, so I wouldn't recommend it !

Just get a AA maglite. they are really small and have a "candle" mode.
Then no fear of a flat battery  Big Grin

bit of a difference between running 84w and 5w (or 1w if led)
