Solenoid clicking - won`t start - Andy R - 17-08-12

Not had my fazer running for a few months. Charged the battery up and tried starting it. All that happens is the solenoid clicks frantically. No action from the starter motor. Warned to get it mot'd tomorrow. Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks
Andy

sound like the battery has had it to me...

Another one - how old is your battery? Your battery may be charged, but not able to hold the charge (starting uses a lot of battery power).

Yup, battery for sure. Unless you didn't tighten the battery terminals properly...Spot of copper slip on them too

could you bump it to get to the mot Wink

Just had the same, bump start before Mot in town.
Kept engine running for test, then round to bike shop for new battery.
2nd battery in 7 years, despite religious use of optimate, dreaded alarm system I guess.

my bike is on its 3rd battery and its 10 years old now,
if you can get 3 years out of them then your on a good one

Try checking the 30amp fuse that leads to the starter solenoid under the seat they have a tendency to fur up just had same problem with mine did a voltage check on battery to prove that was ok cleaned the fuse up and all is now ok

Could the starter motor have stuck through lack of use? Gentle tap whilst trying to start perhaps? Corrosion on starter comm through lack of use again? Could try a jump lead direct to the starter motor from another source (Car or other bike) maybe?
Good Luck
