Replacing water pump inlet pipe - Aegis Bearing Mel - 09-08-12
After eventually getting enough hours of not rain to go out and inspect 'Bee, I've traced the coolant leak to the water pump inlet pipe.
I've a replacement set of assorted water and oil pumps coming from the Bay of Flea, but after that I'm not sure what to do.
Anyone done this?
Looking at the service manual it appears to be a case of drain the coolant, remove the radiator hoses from the associated pipes, unbolt them and just pull it out.

HOWEVER, experience says that Yam have a habit of making things slightly more complicated than that.

I'm fairly happy playing with things (did the R1 fork mod/rebuild mesen, service her happily, swapped the butterflies out etc) but is this gonna turn around and bite me in the arse is my question.
She's my daily commuter, so could really do without foccin' her up.

Do you mean just replacing the hose coming out of it? If so, pieceop1ss....
If you mean the waterpump needs replaced, its quite a bit of grief to do, and will take a full day or more.

I'm reading it that you're replacing the metal pipe that goes into the water pump through the front of the engine.
On a Gen 2 I think it's similar to the Gen 1 and other R1 motors. There's an O-ring which seals the pipe to the water pump and another O-ring where the pipe passes through the crankcase. Both need to be replaced, obviously.
Make sure you clean everything thoroughly before disturbing the pipe and be meticulous with keeping grit out of the mix during the rebuild.

Sorry Kebab, that should say replacement pipes, not pumps.
I'll break with tradition and clean her then Mike, second time this year I think.
She'll wonder what's hit her!
I'll head into the dealer and order a couple of replacement O-rings as well, should be here around the same time as the bits from fleabay.
