New purchase of 99T Yamaha 600 Fazer - ricksmith - 04-08-12

Hi all

Just purchased a 99T 600 fazer and am looking for some bits for it. I am after an original owners manual, radiator guard and some crash bars if anybody wants to part with them.
What are these fazers like, only had a little run around the block and it felt quite good, well good enough to buy it anyway. My usual ride is my trusty FJ1200A but thats going soon to a new owner down in Kent.
Looking forward to any useful advice and any problem areas with the fazer.

Kind regards
Rick

At the top of this page you can download a Haynes manual for starters:

It'll certainly be a different ride to an FJ1200 but they're great fun, i think everyone on here will agree with me  Smile

the only "problem" i have found is the gearbox is very "clunky" going into 1st and 2nd.
other than that, sweet ride Smile

1st/2nd gear earthquake 'clonk' is perfectly normal, it sounds horrible every time but it's all good.....

The FJ would be a smoother ride, Fazer's are highly strung, rev the nuts off it and it will duly respond, they actually like abuse....

For 1st and 2nd ive found it is a lot worse when cold. However, someone on the forum gave the advice of pulling in the clutch lever several times before setting off when sat in neutral and this helps a lot to make the changes smoother.

Once the bikes warm, its as good as its gonna get (unless something is wrong / broken).

Mine was clunky going into first and worse going into second, fixed it by dropping the gear lever a couple of notches and now as smooth as butter, been like that since i done it nearly 3 years ago.. Wink

Also done this with my zrx1200r with the same results.

For someone still near the start of the learning curve (me), could you give us more details on what this is?

I have some 2nd hand crashbars in the workshop. 2  sets of the big wrap around sort and a set of the smaller "just in front of the crank case" sort I also have a few rad guards kcking about

Ive had 2 mk1, 600's . I have not had these gearbox  1'st /second issues. My first bike a 99 , had a distinct gearbox whine , but i don't think this was a serious issue. I was watching 2 identical looking Harleys on the m6 recently , when they engaged first to set of ,the noise was teeth rattling!
most of the Fazer issues are pretty obvious, dicky fuel gauge sender , rear shock etc. Great bike i can't imagine anyone not liking a mk 1 Fazer
