Petition launched against Matlock Bath parking plans - Grahamm - 31-07-12

From MCN:

Quote:A petition has been set up to fight the planned parking charges for bikes on the streets of Matlock Bath, Derbyshire’s motorcycling Mecca.

Sheffield Motorcycle Centre (SMC) have started the online petition, approved by Derbyshire County Council, which requires 7,500 signatures to force a re-think and keep parking free on Matlock Bath’s North and South parades.

The village is one of the most popular destinations for bikers in the country, attracting thousands every month in summer, however, the council plans to bring in on-street parking charges for all vehicles on the North and South Parades, the areas usually full of bikes.

Are the Council so short sighted that they don't realise that any money raised from parking fees will be totally wiped out by the loss of income to businesses in the area??

You can sign the petition here

Maybe because Matlock is small and shops have dwindled over the last few years, the retailers that are still there rely on summer Sunday trade that the bikers bring in especially the eating establishments.

don't worry, stratford banned bikes from the riverside...............until the traders got onto the council and explained that @20% of their sunday takings were from bike riders

I have signed it. So many good small businesses will go out of business if it goes ahead

Re: Petition launched against Matlock Bath parking plans - Dave48 - 03-08-12

Just signed. Places like Matlock rely on visitors spending money whether 2-wheeled or other. Increased parking charges/restrictions simply send people elsewhere with their cash. Shortsighted or what?

Re: Petition launched against Matlock Bath parking plans - erix2 - 04-08-12

Unfortunately the council wont give a damn if a few cafes close because the parking revenue will far exceed what they trawl in in business rates.....nowt to do wiv being short-sighted just raising revenue to spend on themselves.... :rolleyes

Eric  :eek

Re: Petition launched against Matlock Bath parking plans - DryRob - 05-08-12

Signed, I've never been but would probably pass through if they were charging for parking. Councils suggest this kind of thing all the time and I can't see the logic.
