Just had a bit of a Jaunt - dickturpin - 24-07-12 Thursday left Yorkshire and travelled south past York to Rugby, then down the Fosse Way to the Cotswolds where I camped the night. Friday picked up from Malmesbury and went via Glastonbury, Minehead, Lynmouth and on to Padstow to camp for night two. Saturday through Newquay and St Ives to Landsend. Turned back via Penzance Truro Plymouth and camped third night at Salcombe. Sunday over Dartmouth Ferry to Torquay, Teignmouth, Exeter, Shaftesbury, Stonehenge and on to Chipping Norton for night four. Next day through Banbury, Market Harborough, Leicester to A1 and home. 1150miles of great biking, lots of memories and lessons learnt for trip number three. Having done John o Groats in 2010 I've now done 'end to end' on the Fazer but not as quickly as some have done it!!! D Re: Just had a bit of a Jaunt - SEPTIKANGEL - 24-07-12 It's a long way innit? And how lucky are we! Did Scotland meself in May (minus 2 degrees and 30mph winds, snow and ice!) but been this last three days to Falmouth and back - glorious sunshine, some brilliant roads and had a little run through Cornish twisties with a black '02 fazer 1000 for some good miles too. Anyone on here? Re: Just had a bit of a Jaunt - dickturpin - 24-07-12 Looking on the positive side....yes, it is a long way to Cornwall....but that makes us closer to Scotland! :lol Re: Just had a bit of a Jaunt - red98 - 25-07-12 hi dickturpin....great ride....iam planning my own ride out / tour a bit like you,did you book your camp site in advance or just turn up and hope they had a spare pitch. ![]() Re: Just had a bit of a Jaunt - manuel32 - 25-07-12 Nice ride, i hope the weather was with you,,this is the week to go. Nowt as good as going away. Re: Just had a bit of a Jaunt - dickturpin - 25-07-12 Apart from a bit of drizzle on Thursday near Nottingham the weather was perfect. Clear skies and warmth, unlike most of this summer so far! No need to book campsites, I think the financial climate and the weather has created lots of vacancies. Apart from the most regimented campsites, who wont find a few square metres to put another small tent on. The pitch fees ranged from £8.50 to £13. Now where should I go next? :rolleyes D Re: Just had a bit of a Jaunt - red98 - 25-07-12 cheers dickturpin....i wont bother to pre book then, that way i can make my route up as i go ![]() ![]() Re: Just had a bit of a Jaunt - dickturpin - 25-07-12 No, no hold-ups!!!! :rollin Re: Just had a bit of a Jaunt - manuel32 - 25-07-12 My wife works in the YHA youth hostel, its great for touring, you can pre book or call in,,chance it, open to anyone,,i go in sometimes and it amazing the variety of folks in there, About £15 each per night,,self catering,,well equipped kitchens, bring your own food or eat out at the local pub. There are alot of foreign tourists, Japan, Australia,German, they all use it. You can find them on the YHA website,,all over the place. Oh and you dont have to be a youth.haha The other week there were a group of Germans on vintage bikes, mostly english old rattle boxes,,but they seemed to enjoy the trip. |
