Yamaha or Givi back box - bunahilga - 13-07-12

I've just come from the yamaha shop, asked for a price for a backbox and rack fitted. He said both around the £300 mark and i'm better off going for the yamaha, as its roughly the same and alot less work to fit.what do you's reckon? Thanks.

I've got the Givi Monokey on mine (45L), £270 all up (£235 for box/rack, £35 fitting charge).

i have the yamaha one ,it takes about 10 mins to take off and put on,it goes on the grab rail nice and easy

Is that 10min to remove the box? or 10min to remove carrier aswell?  Givi box takes <10sec to remove.

10 mins to remove the carrier, quite a few bolts but it goes on the grab rail so there is no framework and nothing to remove

The thing to ask yourself is whether you'll want to add hard panniers at a later date.

I had the Yamaha rack that fitted onto the grab rails, but then found that it wasn't compatible with the Givi Panniers as you need to take off bits of the back of the bike to mount the pannier brackets onto the under-seat pipes.

So it might be more expensive for just the box initially, but if you want hard panniers later, go for the Givi setup.
