bar position - phil on a fazer - 05-06-12 Alright Had my Fazer for nearly 5 years now, and still it love it :lol but...all this time ive felt its not quite as comfy as i want. i cant quite put my finger on it though, i think its the bars....i think there slightly in the wrong position??? When ever i sit on a bike i automatically sit bolt up right, i think this may be the problem. On the fazer i find i lock my arms when riding, i have to remind myself to drop the shoulders and relax the elbows/arms (just like when you first learnt to ride a big bike). I bought some bar risers for my Tenere 660, but before i fit them i thought i would try them on the Fazer. There shim stacks so you can have them set to different heights. ![]() i reckon they only higher the bars 8 - 10mm. Had a quick blast and they felt ok. Thing is i ride my Tenere 70% of the time so my Fazer always feels a bot weird now ![]() The top clamp though doesnt meet the bottom riser...well, it does on one side but not the other (on a standard Tenere neither side touches). there tight so its safe...i hope ![]() ![]() also hopefully getting my seat rebuilt soon so was thinking of having a small amount (15mm?) of height added the riders part. Its hard to solve the problem as i cant quite figure out what it is i dont like...i think the bars need to be higher (like they now are) but also curve round a tad? ( so the grips are a touch closer?) anyone know what im on about? ![]() Re: bar position - CRH - 05-06-12 ever tryed rolling bars back a bit?...i put 25mm risers on my 600 and rolled back from dead level makes big difference? Re: bar position - Tmation - 05-06-12 SW Motech do some good kit for moving bars about. Expensive but very adjustable option http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/Vario_Barback.html Up and back option http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/Handlebar_Risers___Up_&_Back__31_mm_up__25_mm_back.html up only, various, from 20 to 50 mm http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/Handlebar_Risers_25_mm.html. I have had a Gen 1 seat rebuilt by digger seats with about 20mm extra in the height and made the riders seat area longer (in the Corbin Style). It makes the seat height a little tall for my dad (who I share the bike with) as he seems to have shrunk a bit as he has got older (80 this year), will have to see how it suits me when I get home in July. Re: bar position - caretaker - 05-06-12 you need up and back. you wont be able to lock your arms straight. Have you tried gripping the bike with your thighs? (No smutty comments from the cheap seats, please!) I used to lock my arms too, but this pushes your feet down onto the pegs and helps you relax your shoulders, drop your elbows and I've found it makes a noticeable difference to my riding because you can use your legs to help "push" the bike into a turn. As i said i think mine are rasied 8-10mm, and with a quick ride seem o.k I guess a few mill more might be nice but alot of the risers are 20,30,40mm high - which i think is too high. I would also like them back a bit (towards the rider) but again, the risers you can buy seem to bring them back 25 - 40mm....yet again, i think thats too far. i reckon i would only want them back about 15mm which is why i think i may look a different bars to replace the 758's i have. i know 10 mm higher and 15mm back might seem bugger all but i think it will make a difference....especially when riding all day. Might wait till i get my seat rebuilt and re access the situation. Anyone know of any bars like the 758's but where the ends sweep back abit closer to the rider? cheers Re: bar position - Tmation - 10-06-12 Phil, Looking at your pictures, the bars are 7/8", I would guess you have raised your bars about 1" or 25mm. you need to measure from where the bottom of the bar was to where it is now. |
