running richhi - reggae123 - 16-05-12

what would cause a bike to run rich (bike starrted ok today kinda lol)

Re: running richhi - mcyoungy - 16-05-12

blocked air filter.

Re: running richhi - reggae123 - 16-05-12

airfilter is fine the carbs do have cracks in quite bad ones

Re: running richhi - topgun44 - 16-05-12

600 are bit lean on runing  Wink

Re: running richhi - mcyoungy - 16-05-12

cracked carb rubbers will make it run lean, not rich

Re: running richhi - red98 - 16-05-12

cracked inlet rubbers are a common fault on 600 fazers, they are very thick and its a fair bet that there not cracked all the way through.and as MCYOUNGY has already said will make the bike run lean not rich  Smile

Re: running richhi - mcyoungy - 16-05-12

worn emulsion tubes would cause rich running. float level too high.

how do you know it's running rich?

Re: running richhi - reggae123 - 16-05-12

the spark plugs are sooty so changed them

Re: running richhi - Andy FZS - 16-05-12

Choke stuck or partly stuck on?

Re: running richhi - reggae123 - 16-05-12

choke works  as it should

Re: running richhi - bikemad62 - 17-05-12

Take the choke plungers out and get a magnifing glass and look at the rubber seal faces for wear or cracks. just because they move don't mean they "ain't" damaged !!!!

Re: running richhi - bikemad62 - 17-05-12

Other advice would be. Strip them down clean and rebuild paying close attention to worn moving parts. such as jet needles, sliders and diaphrams. There are a surprising amount of moving parts in there. and always use a magnifying glass. The damage may be hard to see with the naked eye. My son had a small split in one of his slider diaphram and neither of us saw it until i magnified it. caused all sorts of problems. hope this helps.

Re: running richhi - reggae123 - 17-05-12

ok and how on earth would i do that will it help my bike to start better

Re: running richhi - mcyoungy - 17-05-12

what starting problem do you have? hot or cold?  what mileage is on the bike? when were the valve clearances checked?

Re: running richhi - reggae123 - 17-05-12

no idea when the valve  clearences were last cheked i have noticed when u turn the ket in the igntion u have to wait for the ist click noise to click then the bike starts is thgat normal ie is that click sound the petrol pump cheers

Re: running richhi - Gnasher - 18-05-12

Is it rich at idle and below 3k or above 3k?

Re: running richhi - bikemad62 - 21-05-12

Get a haynes manual for a start. If the needles on the sliders are worn they will let more petrol through and that may cause the rich mixture.
