Sticky throttle - Oxygen - 07-05-12

To answer my own question about a problem with a sticking throttle. It would not snap back when released.

I tried to oil the cable at first and this worked briefly but then it got sticky again. On the advice from a mate I removed the bar grip gave it a good clean and then sprayed some silicone on the handlebar and in the grip/throttle. This seems to have done the trick.

When I first looked inside the grip it looked very clean but it would seem that it was grease/dirt that was making it stick.

Might help someone with the same problem.

Mine is like this, I'll have to give this a go at the weekend.  Thanks for the tip Smile

I put 3-in1 down the cables as well but it defo the grip.

Removed my grip and switch assembly last night as the starter button was a little more difficult to push than normal, cleaned it all out and thought that while it's off I may as well clean under the throttle grip.

Was quite a bit of dirt and general grime underneath which soon cleaned off with wire wool and Autosol, little bit of silicon spray on both the inner grip and bar, reassembled and all feels good, will give it a ride out today and check if weathers ok.

Mine turned out to be the bar end mirror was done up against the end of the grip.  Since I took them off it's been fine and since one of the inserts is missing I've never got around to putting any weights on since removing the mirrors.
