Bloomin Punctures!! - Skinbeatersam - 30-04-12

Oi Oi,

I have got another puncture on me rear tyre, in a nice central location, so should be easily fixable.

However, I have already had a puncture repaired on that tyre and I was wondering if there is a limit to how many mushroom plugs you can have. Is having two in there safe??

The tyre is only 1000miles old (bought in Feb) so I really don't want to have to get another one . . .

Road Pilot 2's btw.

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - Aegis Bearing Mel - 30-04-12

I've had two fitted by the tyre dude (and another two fitted by a friend Wink)in the same tyre and all was well.
I also stuck some punturesafe in too, that stuff is worth MY weight in Saffron!

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - Skinbeatersam - 30-04-12

Coolio. I don't wanna lug it all the way to the garage and have some dude tell me he can't do it cos of the simple fact he can tell me that to get more money from me. . . . Cheers!! :-)

I got a puncture today too, usual PVC glazing screw in my 1500 mile old RoadAttack. bah. Luckily  I had a can of tyreweld which got me home. Was going to get it mushroomed but my fitter mate offered me a 'cancelled order' set of pilot 2s for £200 fitted. That'll do nicely.

As long as I can get it plugged, then that'll be cool. :-)

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - dolau - 01-05-12

Has anyone suffered a front tyre puncture while riding?

I can imagine that would cause a whole world of pain! :eek

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - mcyoungy - 01-05-12

About 30 years ago. It was an absolute pain. Stuck in traffic with a flat front. Bike virtually unmoveable.

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - rustyrider - 01-05-12

It's not just bikes.  I've just got home quite a bit lighter in the wallet department after going outside this morning to find a self tapper in the shoulder of one of the rear tyres on my Range Rover.  Too close to the sidewall to plug so had to be a new tyre.......

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - JZS 600 - 01-05-12

I got a front punture once on my ZX6R.

Didn't know about it till I turned off the A2 into the first roundabout.

Thought to myself, blimey, steering feels a bit heavy,,,, I'd ridden the previous 20 miles between 70 and 90.

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - dolau - 01-05-12

Pretty scary!

I had a rear tyre go on the motorway- remember driving over glass a few miles before I got on the motorway- by the time I noticed I was in the outside lane with two lanes underneath me and no hazard lights

Totally trashed the tyre and all the way home on fresh rubber I felt unsafe- took me ages to get my confidence back :rolleyes

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - GringoRojo - 03-05-12

plug it again and make sure you use ultraseal/slime/etc.
only every needed that in the rear though. once changed a worn out rear to find two seperate bits of wire sticking inside the tyre. the ultraseal deffo did it's job.

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - Skinbeatersam - 03-05-12

Do you have links for those products???

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - GringoRojo - 03-05-12

your google stopped working then? :pokefun

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - clayt74 - 03-05-12

I got myself a rep n air kit, http://www.biketrade.co.uk/motorcycle-accessories/motrax_motorcycle_products/puncture_repair_kit.html

after getting a puncture in a brand new rear tyre (less than 300 miles).
i think i got lucky by the fact it was caused by  a screw i picked up aprox 1/2 mile from home on a friday and I didnt even realise till i went to clean the bike on saturday that it was completley flat.
the screw was still in the tyre and dead center, so i pumped it up checked pressure waited 10mins and re checked pressure then rode it 1/2 mile to local garage who was happy to plug it for me.

being caught out or stranded by a bloody puncture would be a nightmare :'( , so atleast now i hopefully have the means to repair it (although i dont know anyone thats ever actually used one before)

Re: Bloomin Punctures!! - Skinbeatersam - 03-05-12

Gringo, no I am just a lazy knob.  :z

I did have a look but some dude has to come round your house and do it. I have other questions though, such as, when I get another nail in it, how will the dude fit another mushroom plug, when the tire is full of goo. Will he have to (I did watch the video, but I don't believe it due to all editing they have done, they could have easily switched vehicles/tires :eek )

Always dubious of 'miracle' products that claim the impossible. I also had 'slime' on my bicycle tyres, which basically did a whole bunch of nothing.
