???

Are you talking about the propeller airplane?

Re: Not something you see on the A158 everyday - rustyrider - 30-04-12

It's a Hercules, see them all over the place in East England.  Surprised you've not seen them before in Lincolnshire.

Very regular round here. Usualy get to look down at them when they fly down the glens, fair sight.

I live near the I.W.M at Duxford, saw the  Catalina flying round on three consectuve days last week, probably been doing some maitenance on it and they were checking it out.
Get quite a lot of Apache helicopters around here as well.

Wokka?? A Wokka is a Chinook?

Re: Not something you see on the A158 everyday - rustyrider - 01-05-12

I have been reliably informed by an ex-Navy bloke at work that any helicopter is a Wokka but a Chinook is a Wokka-Wokka as it has 2 blades.......

Mind you, this is the same bloke that rather than describing the office as front, back, left, right, floor, wall and ceiling, insisted on referring to it as forward, aft, port, starboard, deck, bulkhead and deckhead.

Pete, I was coming down the M11 around midday last Thursday and thought I saw a Catalina being thrown around above Duxford. It looked good.

I used to see the Hercs doing circuits around Swindon (cant remember the name of the base there).

I drive past Odiham "home of the UK's Chinook Force" as it says on the sign! see chinooks daily, as I drive home to Cornwall past Salisbury area see lots of other aircraft.

swinging the latern time I remember been on the bridge of one her majesty's war canoes at the tender age of 19 when a fairly elderly senior officer said to me "RO when the WOKKA WOKKA arrives give me a shout!" i stood there open mouthed not knowing what to say but must admit when the said helicopter arrived its blades did make that sound!!

Re: Not something you see on the A158 everyday - sadlonelygit - 01-05-12

i used to drive over the Tal-y-llyn pass twice a day, not seeing but hearing/feeling a harrier/mrca/hawk come from behind you @50ft above you is not good for the nerves.
now i live in the faaaaaaarest all we have to deal with is apaches appearing above the treeline/wall in front of you and 'killing' you (coach driver)

Re: Not something you see on the A158 everyday - beefy505 - 01-05-12

Yes I'm still in the mob (only for another 10 months though  Big Grin  ) they seem to use the 158 as a reference point every now and then, come along the coast and cut in from Skeg towards Lincoln.
That picture doesn't do it justice, it was bloody big and bloody low!!

And the at my age i'm not giving anybody their 2:45 back!!  Big Grin  It's mine all mine!!!!!!!

Re: Not something you see on the A158 everyday - Fazerider - 01-05-12

It's very difficult to capture the excitement of an aircraft pass with a wide angle lens.
Living near Farnborough I occasionally get the Red Arrows over the house as they're re-arranging themselves into a new formation, absolutely thrilling... yet the photo is most unimpressive. :rollin
