Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - JZS 600 - 24-04-12 After trashing my old boots last year in a spill, I thought I'd treat myself to a nice pair of waterproof touring boots and the ones that came out at the top of my budget were the rather aptly named Alpinestar Hydro Sport Drystar. With a name like that, how could I possibly go wrong! (all boxes ticked...) Currently on my second pair, first pair went back quite quickly as they leaked straight away so were replaced under warranty. Second pair let go this week in a torrential downpour on the way to work. Anyone got any suggestions for boots that do what they say on the advertising? Couldn't get on with Altbergs (the first choice) as they were too narrow in the gusset and didn't want to wait 4 months for a made to measure pair. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - mcyoungy - 24-04-12 Had some Sidi Black Rain which were great. Don't know if you can sttill get them. I think they're now called B2 Gore Black. I now have a pair of Daytona Spirit XCR boots and they appear to be waterproof. they're also leather, which I prefer over plastic, ooops Lorica. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - paul.s - 24-04-12 iv got alpinestar drystar after having sidi black rain these feel like carpet slippers and although iv only been cought in the rain twice aprox total of 50 miles they havent let a drop in :\ Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - know your limitations - 24-04-12 Sidi B2 Goretex Had them a month Took about 3 weeks to break in and 1 roll of plasters for my toes :\ but are (now) very comfortable and supportive. My feet are wiiiide though ![]() Been out in 2 torrential downpours and feet are bone dry. I always pull my trouser legs down over the tops of my boots so only the lower foot part is exposed though. Look cool as and bit more understated than the Sidi Vertigo's. Recommended. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - emjaykay - 24-04-12 Hein Gericke have never failed me. There gore tex boots are superb rode brought some serious rain and snow with them. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - tomjimtom - 24-04-12 another +1 for Sidi, couldn't say what they're called, but have goretex in them and never leaked (in scottish torrential rain) Although I also have trousers down over the tops, so only bottom open to the elements Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - Hodge - 24-04-12 My cheap Aldi boots have never leaked even in torrential rain. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - Aegis Bearing Mel - 24-04-12 TCX Goretex ones, the race rep ones lasted me four years of constant abuse (snow, hail, rain, salt, one Renapur a year...) and were still waterproof, just replaced them with a pair of Infinity which is more or a touring style. Some decent deals on Fleabay at the minute too. :thumbup Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - Looney tune - 24-04-12 TCX Infinity for me, bloody great. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - Grahamm - 24-04-12 I bought Puma Gore-tex boots when I took up biking four and a half years ago and they're still doing a great job even last Sunday when it absolutely bucketted it down! Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - pilgrim - 25-04-12 Spada Slipstream. Never leaked a bit, had them a couple of years now, very comfy, and I ride in all weathers all year round. Best bit though, about 80 quid or so. Bargain ![]() Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - dr bong - 25-04-12 My Oxtars (TCX) are still going strong, never leaked a drop. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - Farjo - 25-04-12 Dainese Goretex. I've ridden through extensive downpours, including Scandinavian deluges, and they've never let in a drop. I've even been for a paddle in the sea. Had them about 6 years and they're still doing the job. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - HarryHornby - 25-04-12 I've been riding in these, pretty much every day for the best part of 3 years, in all sorts of weather. It was tipping it down on my commute today, nice dry toes when I got to work....I'll be buying these again when they wear out! http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/boots-shoes/bullson-maddox-stiefel-schwarz.html Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - fazernigel - 25-04-12 Got a pair of Alpinestars Web Goretex which are absolutely superb. I have worn these for four years and about 25 thousand miles and they are totally waterproof. Had a spill in them last year and they saved me serious injury. The only slight problem is the tread is quite warn so i have to be carefull when putting my foot down in the wet. Just bought a pair of Hein Gericke ankle boots that look like trainers which are goretex so hoping they will be as waterproof as the Alpinestars Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - JZS 600 - 25-04-12 Thanks for the replies, should have asked before buying :'( Never mind, funnily enough I "borrowed" a pair of Sidi Black Rains from my son in law who had them for a while but they has seen better days. They didn't leak much but seem to have had the guts knocked out of them. The AlpineStars are comfortable enough, just thought they would keep out the water a bit better,,,, Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - ddtwelve - 25-04-12 I've got a pair of frank Thomas boots which have seen a couple of downpours since I've had them all leather and was on cheap offer from j&s when they took over ft £50 I paid but at the time there was 3 pairs of boots from different manufacturers that was the same Alito,ft,and another one ,still dry feet after 4 months and comfy too Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - Phil TK - 25-04-12 I have a pair of Teknic <ahem> Violator boots. Very comfy to walk in and easily accomodate my chubby overdeveloped calf muscles, they are warm, totally water proof and look cool. I wouldn't reccomend them though, after three years the left one started to fall apart and what I thought was an all over leather upper turned out to be a patchwork of leather, cordora and a plasticky material glued and stitched together. No good at all. I had a pair of Sidi Rains a few years ago and just like a mate of mine found that they stink very badly after a very short time, mine lived on the back doorstep until I put them on ebay. If you can live with the dire styling then Altberg Clubmans are the ones, I had mine well over 10 years and no leaks. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - Skippernick - 25-04-12 I don't recommend oxford boots, they leak and crack. I'm currently using Weise haven't used in the rain yet, but the heel started falling off, less than a year old. I don't have much luck in the boot department. Re: Waterproof boots, anybody got any?! - steeeve66 - 25-04-12 Sidi boots - i think 'Tepor' but i cant find the name on them... judging by this mornings commute pretty good at being waterproof. s |
