Seat rejuvination - james43 - 19-04-12

Hi peeps,

Got a 55 Gen1 thats now looking sweet after alot of hard graft.

I will post so pic's shortly.

The big letdown is the seat its in good condition no rips and not out of shape

But it just looks weathered and is letting my sweet newly sprayed gun metal grey ride down.

Any suggestions on cleaners or polish perhaps

Or do I just bite the bullet and get a new seat or cover.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Something like back to black may make the cover look newer but any kind of polish will make you slide around quite a bit!! Maybe something like leather renovator but again slidey (if that's a word)????

Hi James, I have found that STP son of a gun restores vinyl really well. Watch out for your nuts on the tank when breaking hard as it can make the seat a bit slippery :eek :b .

Dashboard spray.

Known in the trade as "bullshit spray" as it makes the black plastics and rubber bits look like new.

Buy a new cover and fit it over the old cover. it's pretty easy to do and there's plenty on the internet explaining how to go about it.
Tip:- buy a decent staple gun and put the seat base and cover on a hottish radiator just before you staple it on, use a flatblade screwdriver and pliers to remove unwanted/old staples..

£187 for the cover alone  :eek

I think I will stick to the £3 rolls of black gaffer tape.
