Ally bar ends question - Jez - 13-04-12 I am thinking of getting some nice shiny bar ends but I am worried that lighter ones may cause unacceptable vibes. Any thoughts or experiences out there before I throw me hard earned away? Edit: I realise I can take mine off and give it a go without, which I will do, but I still am interested in peeps' onions. Re: Ally bar ends question - mcyoungy - 13-04-12 wouldn't do it mesen for the reason you give. Re: Ally bar ends question - PieEater - 13-04-12 I got a set from ebay for just under £15 inc. they weigh in at 76g vs the originals at 309g, initially I noticed a slight increase in vibes through the bars but nothing too intrusive and after a few rides I've gotten used to it and have no issues at all. I had thought that I'd just use the cheap ones whilst I got the originals cleaned up and powder coated but I don't know if I'll bother. Re: Ally bar ends question - mcyoungy - 13-04-12 Fazer thou is a bit buzzy anyways even with the big heavy stock end weights. Can't imagine it would improve with lighter ones. they're 300g for a reason. Re: Ally bar ends question - Kosmic Kartman - 13-04-12 I've got light bar end on some Renthal Streetfighter bars and there isn't a lot of difference over the stock bars with heavy bar ends. Suck it and see. Re: Ally bar ends question - Pat - 14-04-12 I've used both ally & stainless ones on a set of Renthal ultra lows & can't say I noticed much if any difference between the 2. Re: Ally bar ends question - Jez - 14-04-12 Removed the bar ends today and tried at different speeds without them. At first I thought 'Eek! this is orrible' but soon got used to it. Put them back on and tried again and still some vibes although deffo better. Inconclusive. Guess I will keep half an eye out for some heavyish ones. Standard are 311g each. I think I saw some that are 180g or so. May give them a try or may get mine powdre coated. Dunno. Still interested to hear experiences of ally ends in standard bars. Re: Ally bar ends question - PieEater - 15-04-12 Like you said on switching over the difference is immediately noticable and is still noticeable for the first two or three rides after but I think like me if you persevere after a short while you will stop noticing and it wont be an issue. I think you'll have the exact same experience with the mid-weight bar ends though maybe the time between fitting and you not noticing the vibes will be shorter. Re: Ally bar ends question - mcyoungy - 15-04-12 if you've got the stockers why not rub tthem down and clear lacquer them? Re: Ally bar ends question - Gray fox - 19-04-12 Got light alloy bar ends on my gen 1, at the same time i changed to Renthal alloy bars. Thers is absolutly no difference in vibration levels. Think the alloy bars have a tendency to dampen out the vibes though. Re: Ally bar ends question - jackojet - 20-04-12 Hi Jez I have renthal 758 on my thou and used renthal bar ends and renthal race grips . no vibes or tingles and balanced steering most vibes are caused by the bike having standard jetting , i found the vibes went away after Mike did full monty, but i had renthals with no real vibes before Mike worked his magic hope this helps you decide about bar ends ![]() Re: Ally bar ends question - ZiggyCol - 20-04-12 I changed to renthal 758s too but preferred to stick with heavy bar ends ie the originals - so tapped a thread in the renthals to accept them and sprayed them candy red to match the rest of the paintwork. Works for me. |
