coolant reservoir - Crewpack - 22-03-12

Hi Guys need your help once again , just servicing my fazer 1000 thought I would start with the coolant change as seems straight forward enough, removed coolant drain bolt drained coolant no problem. When it comes to the reservoir the Haynes manual states that's I either detach the over flow hose from the radiator filler neck and draw it out from the bike and placing it lower than the reservoir or remove the reservoir itself which looks time consuming. Anybody changed their coolant recently and come up with a different way ???
many thanks for your help

Not tried it personally but either syphon it or use suction, like a large syringe and tubing.

Re: coolant reservoir - ghostbiker - 23-03-12

i have a large syringe i use for stuff like this, although recently when i did my daughters ER5 i did take the extra time to remove it and give it a good clean as a lot of sludge had built up at the bottom.

Re: coolant reservoir - eddie - 23-03-12

syphon it out what little remains wont do any harm, fill up res with neat coolant using a small funnel with some tube on end of it

or you could just flush it through with clean water....

Hi Guys
Thanks for that I nipped to B & Q this morning and  bought a metre length of 10ml clear tube , syphoned the remainder out of the reservoir no problems a lot easier. I would recommend this to anybody who wants to remove coolant from there reservoir.
Many Thanks

Replaced my coolant last year as per the yamaha owners manual , nothing in there about removing the resevoir , it says after draining rad , put in coolant , fit radiator cap , start engine run for a few minutes to warm up, turn it off , recheck radiator if necessary top up , check resevoir level and top up , mines been no problem since
