I'm thinking of fitting a cig lighter socket under my seat, I'm no sparky but surely its not as simple as wiring a socket (with an in-line fuse) directly across the battery terminals?

That's all I did, no issues so far
as long as it's got a cap, you're not going to drain or spark anything

Get a waterproof socket with the fuse already attached for extra laziness - got this one from amazon last week

Had one wired in like that on my FZS and now fitting one on my FZ6 as long as it has an inline fuse you are protected and also you can withdraw the fuse to work on the socket- I am fitting mine on the fairing on the side panel

I decided to fit mine with an automate attachement so I can just plug it into the automate lead rather than have to connect yet another thing to the wiring

bought a bike lately and there is a lighter socket under the seat. just wondered if i can plug my optimate into it to charge?

If you are going to do it then do it properly connect it into the fuse box to a switched live (unless you want to use it when the ignition is off) saves any possible problems in the future. Did this on my '98 with a 3 port extention so I can power the intercom radio my ipod and still have room to charge the mobile

Whenever I see a thread like this I remember the ride out in Wales where 'someones' Fazer had a fire under the seat when a charger was used without an inline fuse. Would have been worrying if everyone wasn't laughing so much............

Would this draw power that should be going elsewhere? Again, I'm not a sparky so am probably talking out of my arse
