Exhaust sealant - edc - 12-03-12 Hi all, I've recently installed a Motad venom exhaust (downpipes/linkpipe/silencer combo), but the gap between the link pipe and silencer blows. Link pipe to collectors seem fine. I've not used any sealant in the assembly and have seen firegum mentioned a lot - but not everyone seems to like it. For example, water collecting in the join washes it out when trying to cure it. Interested to know what you guys have used in the past with success. Cheers, EdC Re: Exhaust sealant - keno - 12-03-12 Had a similar problem when i fitted my delkavic can & link pipe but mine was blowing at the downpipe joint thought it was my gasket being old so bought a new one but was still blowing,i used some of this kind of sealant and has been leak free for over 12 months now,if you use this stuff make sure you let it cure for 36-48 hours before starting the bike or it will leak as it wont have cured properly.Or if your leak is not to bad you could just let the carbon build up and that may seal it naturally mine was pretty bad so had no choice but to use sealant. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-RED-HIGH-TEMPERATURE-SILICONE-ADHESIVE-SEALANT-20ml-HEAT-RESISTANT-300C-/300654695334?pt=UK_Crafts_Cardmaking_Scrapbooking_Glue_Tape_EH&hash=item46006a93a6#ht_1366wt_802 Good luck.. ![]() Re: Exhaust sealant - DryRob - 12-03-12 Have you tightened the clamp at the link/endcan enough? My system was all pretty sung so only needed gaskets at the headers. Re: Exhaust sealant - edc - 12-03-12 I think so... don't want to do it too tight though! Will double check. With no torque values I am making it up as I go along! |
