So what I have broken? - Jazoli - 06-03-12 Hi all first post with new username, I was a member on the old yuku board when I had a fzs600 but forgot my login. Anyway to cut a long story short, I've an '03 thou now, I was halfway through fitting my bikevis led's when the old boy turned up for a natter, I managed to short the sidelight wires together that I had spliced into because I got distracted, smoke appeared from somewhere (i thought it cooked the smidsy light modulator that ran the leds as that stopped working when I tested it off the bike) Now the bike starts and runs fine but when I indicate or put the hazards on it flashes the sidelights and the indicators and instrument lights are very dim, also the lcd clock in the dash turns on and off. The side lights and dip/main beam work perfectly, I tried changing the flasher relay as I had a spare but its not that. I'm no electrician but not inept either, I just hope I haven't broken my new bike, I've only had it a day :'( Can anybody offer any advice? Thanks in advance Re: So what I have broken? - solorider - 06-03-12 Sounds like you have burnt out the earth wire so when you indicate the power has to go somewhere so it goes down the other power wires Re: So what I have broken? - Jazoli - 07-03-12 (06-03-12, 11:59 PM)solorider link Wrote: Sounds like you have burnt out the earth wire so when you indicate the power has to go somewhere so it goes down the other power wires Ok, that helps, I guess I'll just have to find which earth it is now, shouldn't be too hard, I'll try that tomorrow, thanks ![]() If anybody knows where the earths are I'd appreciate a heads up as I've just been out for a quick look and cannot see any obvious ones ![]() Re: So what I have broken? - phil on a fazer - 07-03-12 Cant help with this problem as too me electrics is pure witch craft...but...where did you mount the LED's...got a photo? Tar Re: So what I have broken? - Jazoli - 07-03-12 No pics yet a I've pulled everything back off to rectify what I have done ![]() Re: So what I have broken? - bludclot - 07-03-12 where did the smoke come from? that's the big clue.... Lhs of the bike, that's all I can say really as my priority was to disconnect it quickly, I cannot be more accurate ![]() Re: So what I have broken? - Jazoli - 07-03-12 Ok so I fixed it, one of the looms plug was not connected properly causing a short. Tis fixed now, I was only fitting these ![]() Re: So what I have broken? - ddtwelve - 07-03-12 where you get them from and how much? Cheers Dave Re: So what I have broken? - phil on a fazer - 08-03-12 Are those the LED side lights that Bikevis sell? They are, a great product, link with discount code http://www.bikevis.com/discount.html As for the type of screen, I have no idea ![]() Re: So what I have broken? - tomjimtom - 16-03-12 sorry to resurect this, but thought it better than starting a new one.. Bought the bikevis bullets and they came today, does anyone who's done this have a recommendation for what to splice in to? I'm thinking sidelight but this raises my other question: What colour is the positive wire? Haynes suggests blue with red but my battery's sitting in my lounge and I don't want to connect it and set the alarm off, fill the carbs etc. until I go to ride it (next payday) Many thanks all ![]() Tom Re: So what I have broken? - Jazoli - 18-03-12 I spliced mine into the sidelights, I couldn't tell you which colour is live though as its all back together, make sure you test the leds before soldering them up, they will only work one way. |
