FZS ECU - FZSPattaya - 23-02-12

Hi guys,
I have an FZS imported into Thailand as a used bike from Japan. As you may know, the Japanese spec bikes are limited to 105 bhp and the only way around this is to change the ECU.
It looks to be a simple enough mod and I've seen plenty of them for sale on Ebay. Does anyone on here know if the UK spec ECU is the same from 2001 to 2005? I'd rather not end up with the wrong one. From what I can find out, my bike is about a 2004 model.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
By the way, the restriction isn't the simple rubber stops in the top of the carbs as on some earlier European bikes.

Re: FZS ECU - Falcon 269 - 23-02-12

Hi Smile

You can check the part numbers for each model year here to confirm if the ECU is the same.  I have a suspicion that they changed at some point in the production period.  http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx?sb=4

I'm not familiar with Japanese market restriction methods but is just a lower gear-only thing?  Have you looked at this sort of solution?  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nikko-De-Restriction-G-Pack-Yamaha-FZS1000-Fazer-01-05-/350355306359?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5192cdb777

Re: FZS ECU - FZSPattaya - 23-02-12

Hi Falcon,
Thanks for the quick answer. As far as I can find out (and feel by riding it), it reduces power at high revs in all gears.
If I had acess to a dyno, it would probably show that its fine in all gears up to 8000 revs or so. It does rev higher and I've had it up to 250kph (150mph) on the speedo.
With the roads available here, it's not really an issue but it seems a shame to miss out on more bhp if its such a simple fix.
I will check the parts numbers - cheers for the links.

Re: FZS ECU - sadlonelygit - 23-02-12

is your bike lights on or lights off?
post 2003 bikes have ecu controlled lights, therefore different to pre2003 bikes.

Re: FZS ECU - FZSPattaya - 23-02-12

Lights on (and tuning fork logo on the tank - no mention of Yamaha)

Re: FZS ECU - sadlonelygit - 23-02-12

well having a look here says they all have the same part number.

Re: FZS ECU - FZSPattaya - 23-02-12

Thanks for checking out the ECU.
I am now checking out whether the Nikko De-Restriction G-Pack Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer 01-05 mentioned in Falcon's post (above) is a replacement ECU - if so, job done (I hope).
Anyway, thanks guys for sharing your knowledge. Even though you are highly unlikely to end up with a Jap spec FZS you have helped me out.
Cheers
