High rpm - Bitfik - 19-02-12

Hi, I don't tend to push my fazer too hard, but sometimes like to get the revs up. Just for fun.

I wondered if it does the bike any harm to operate at high revs?

Thanks in advance for any tips. Smile

Re: High rpm - Bracechenko - 19-02-12

Well, depends what you mean. Don't sit at 70mph in 4th gear etc etc but there's nothing wrong with screaming up to the red line every now and again.....blows off the cobwebs!

Re: High rpm - ghostbiker - 19-02-12

you should come to the BMF show's, the FOC-U and Bandits owners clubs tend to have compititions on rev counter bouncing when we do the sunday arena ride Smile
thats what limiters were made for Smile

The key as far as i am concerned is warming the engine up first, make sure its a full operating temp before and dont hold it to high for to long

Re: High rpm - dolau - 19-02-12

I have an FZ6 which red lines around 14k and makes maximum bhp around 12k so I am often to be found around 8 and she is singing

Like was said- warm it up first...... not that I am an expert you understand

Re: High rpm - Fazbaz - 20-02-12

I track-dayed a fazer for about a year and used to use the rev-limiter ar a poor man's quickshifter.... Even with that abuse and a daily commute the engine was fine with no apparent ill effects.

As others have said, just make sure it's warmed up first.

Thanks guys, put my mind at rest.

Making sure she is properly warmed seems to be the top tip and I shall certainly be taking that on board.

Re: High rpm - Gnasher - 21-02-12

Rev it they love it  Big Grin  you can't do any damage to it thats what the rev limiter is for, even that limit can be exceded  Wink

Re: High rpm - pointer2null - 22-02-12

just bear in mind:

bus engine - revs to 2.5k max and last billion miles
grand prix engine - revs to 20k (or whatever) and lasts 1 or 2 races.

Higher rpm = shorter life.

PMSL at that one....

Like a CBR250 Honda wouldn't have made a 500 mile service without a new engine being required  :pokefun .

Re: High rpm - BIG MAC - 23-02-12

It's an R6 derived engine...you aren't going to take it into R6 territory that often....it will be fine

:lol - they don't quite rev to the same level as a F1 engine and the tolerances are a little different too.

Re: High rpm - BIG MAC - 24-02-12

And the pistons aren't platinum with angels hair rings either

Re: High rpm - dx408 - 27-02-12

IMHO it is good to give the bike a good rev every now and then, personally I make sure the bike is nice and warmed up and I never thrash it in 1st.  Get into 2nd twist and hold the throttle open, a little pressure under the gear shift when it hits the limiter it slips up a gear  :b repeat as required.
1998 FZS MK1 still going strong.  :lol
