Seized rear brake caliper - fazersteve - 05-02-12 Hi all from a very cold Inverness, Prior to taking my bike off for the winter I set about cleaning my brakes.Front both fine but the rear had a stuck piston. Last week left the caliper with a mechanic friend to blow piston out with compressed air.The bad news is the piston is seized solid and will not move. So do I have any other options apart from a second hand caliper. Re: Seized rear brake caliper - Fazer Jake - 05-02-12 i got mine out with mole grips, u have to be extremely careful though not to damange the piston, unless your buying new ones. Re: Seized rear brake caliper - solorider - 05-02-12 You could reconnect the calipers and bleed it,then clamping the good piston pump the piston out, hydraulic pressure should shift it Re: Seized rear brake caliper - dogruff - 05-02-12 Haven/t suffered this problem yet,but apparently its a common Fazer problem. My old sumitomo's seized badly once but blew out okay,Sounds like a replacement caliper to me.Check this site as i think the Fazer 1000 is a straight swap, but a different type of caliper, therefore less prone to permanent seizure. If the piston is seized flush there is very little you can do.If you can catch a good edge Vise grips may release it,if you twist, but will damage the piston. Re: Seized rear brake caliper - fazersteve - 05-02-12 Hi, Have tried clamping and using hydraulic pressure but just won't budge. Re: Seized rear brake caliper - fazersteve - 05-02-12 Are the caliper from the 1000 just a straight swap. Re: Seized rear brake caliper - dogruff - 05-02-12 Someone with more knowledge than i have will answer, but i'm sure i read it somewhere.Problem is i've owned too many bikes over th years and my old brain can only hold a certain amount of data. The problem is just finding the right model ie Gen 1 FZ1 FZR!!!. Re: Seized rear brake caliper - davec - 05-02-12 Yeah, they are a straight swap apart from having to slightly modify the caliper bracket. You just need to cut/file a small part of it away so the bolt holes line up. You'll need a caliper from a 2001-2005 FZ1. Re: Seized rear brake caliper - kebab19 - 05-02-12 Covered extensively, even on this new site. FZS1000, TRX850 & YZF750 rears fit http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,942.msg6067.html#msg6067 Re: Seized rear brake caliper - fazersteve - 05-02-12 Thanks to all who replied. |
