Caliper Piston Removal - Phil TK - 02-02-12 It looks like I've got a sticky or seized piston on one of my front calipers so I'm going to take both the calipers off and get all the pistons out for a good clean up. It's not a problem, I usually clamp 3 of the pistons and pump air using a foot pump into the caliper to blow out one piston, clean it up, put it back in and then do the other three similarly. But, for the life of me I can't remember how I used to connect the pump into the banjo bolt hole, I have a vague recollection of using a schraeder valve (from an inner tube) and a football inflator (or was it a 'bic' plastic pen cap) but can't imagine how. Somebody who has done this will know what I mean, I'd be grateful if someone could remind me. Cheers Re: Caliper Piston Removal - DryRob - 02-02-12 Have you got a track pump? the shrader adapter on one might fit directly over the nipple? fnarr fnarr etc I took the nipple out and wrapped abit of innertube around the end of a compressor gun and just held it in place, bit awkward though. Cheers I've done in a few times but i use a compressor and take all the pistons out at once.(use a bit of wood in the middle and just watch the pressure ain't to high) I use an old schreader valve in where the bleed nipple goes. (i think, its been a while and you've got me thinking now???) Re: Caliper Piston Removal - tommyteeman - 02-02-12 I just use my "dust blower gun" attachment and the pistons fly out, no need for a good seal between gun and bolt hole. LAst time I did mine the pistons showed very little wear (@20.000 miles), but did renew all seals while I was there. ...sorry just reread your post there and see your using a foot pump, decent seal prob necessary thenĀ ![]() Re: Caliper Piston Removal - phil on a fazer - 02-02-12 (02-02-12, 02:15 PM)tommyteeman link Wrote: but did renew all seals while I was there. sorry to hijack the thread but where did you get your seals from? I'm a bit unsure about using non genuine ones? Re: Caliper Piston Removal - tommyteeman - 02-02-12 iirc wemoto |
