Biofuel timebomb? - FuZzBoM - 27-12-11

Hi Guys, i am new to the forum but spotted something that worried me a little and there is no information on if it affects bikes.
petrol stations are due to start stocking E10 fuel and i'm a little worried it will damage my 03 plate FZS600.

heres the link http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=24900

I have read that BP will be doing the 1st roll out and shell will follow after but leaving v-power at E5 for the time being.

many thanks

They have been runing on 10% ethanol for a while in the USA, and a couple of my friends over there are having all sorts of problems with their 1998-spec R1s. It doesn't seem to cause such obvious problems with injected motors, but they both find that their carbs get messed up if they leave their bikes to stand for any length of time and their bikes won't start. I know that one of them (and he's pretty mechanically competent - he's recently built his own aeroplane) has had to take his R1 into a professional workshop at least twice to get it sorted.

From what I can see this is only a problem in France at the mo. I suspect it's being blown up into a scare story here (remember the ban on 4-star leaded), Since a lot of vehicles here cannot use E10 then the normal (E0?) will be available for quite some time. If you can't tell the difference then you are just as likely to fill up with deiselĀ  Wink
As for being able to build an aeroplane and not fix a bike - then I personally wouldn't get in the plane with himĀ  :eek
