Which alarm system to fit? - nobleFZS - 09-12-11 Looking into fitting an alarm over the winer; any suggestions as to which is best? Re: Which alarm system to fit? - RedRag - 10-12-11 Unless you are using the bike every single day, you will def need a trickle charger and a plug in point or you will also be buying a new battery. They all talk about low drain but this historically does weaken the battery unless it regularly recieved a good charge. Solar panels charging is a possible option http://www.maplin.co...-charger-223251 Don't know if it works or not, but for £13 it might be worth a punt! The lower current one gets good reviews though: http://www.maplin.co...e-charger-98358 Re: Which alarm system to fit? - dekker555 - 10-12-11 Each to his own opinion I know, but I think they are a pain in the butt, going off at the most inconvenient times, and flattening the battery. I paid good money to have one removed when I bought my Fazer and certainly wouldn't want another! I have a secure garage and a U lock that I carry with me. Re: Which alarm system to fit? - crishner - 11-12-11 I have a very simple but efective datatool Deamon http://www.getgeared.co.uk/Datatool_Demon_Compact_Self_Fit_Motorcycle_Alarm?sc=63&category=-163 Re: Which alarm system to fit? - arch33angel - 13-12-11 Yep, pain in the butt. If you can do without it don't bother. Re: Which alarm system to fit? - Motorbreath - 13-12-11 I bought recently a very cheap one at ebay, from china. It works with a 9V battery, but is quite loud. It is too soon to know if it is good. Re: Which alarm system to fit? - nobleFZS - 15-12-11 Thanks for all the advice. Solar panel charging is interesting; nice on RedRag. Everyone i speak to seems to either love them or hate them. Not sure. The Datatool Demon certainly seems like a "cheapish" option and would offer some insurance reduction. Had it over a year, no false alarms, easy to fit and take off (difficult to ride away with it on as the alarm will sound). Seems to be a good deterent, has a flashing led too. No messing around with wiring or worrying about drained batteries and reasonably priced too. Plenty of room under the seat for it as well. Maybe a good alternative? Far better than a Xena alarmed disclock imo that went off too often and was not user friendly. |
